Gregg Wallace has faced criticism from ITV chat show host Lorraine Kelly, who addressed the MasterChef presenter’s recent controversy and axing from the BBC show
Lorraine Kelly has branded Gregg Wallace’s behaviour “strange”.
The ITV star recently criticised Gregg Wallace for using his autism diagnosis as justification for his behaviour on MasterChef. The TV presenter was recently axed from the show amid allegations of misconduct, which he has denied.
While hosting her self-titled ITV show, Lorraine expressed her disapproval: “Gregg Wallace has released a statement, many statements. He’s tried to get ahead of this a lot and he’s said many, in my opinion, inappropriate things.”
She added: “It’s just quite strange because he has a little boy who has autism as well. I find that bizarre, I find that very strange,” reports the Mirror.
Gregg has a four-year-old son Sid and last year the TV host shared Sid’s autism diagnosis, revealing that he is non-verbal: “When he’s unhappy, he can’t tell us. If he’s scared or unwell, he can’t tell us. That’s quite nerve-racking for a parent.”
Lorraine’s guest Nicola Thorp, known for starring in Coronation Street, suggested the dismissal of MasterChef’s executive producer.
She said: “There’s two things that need to happen in the entertainment industry. Number one, we need a centralised reporting system.
“The second thing that needs to happen is instead of firing individual presenters they need to fire executive producers. I promise you, if not just the presenter but the executive producers get the sack, those exec producers will make sure that everybody on set is treated fairly and make sure people are reporting right to the top.”
She later added: “I was made aware of Gregg Wallace a long time ago but people weren’t listening about the comments being made.”
Recently, Gregg released a statement defending himself, stating that “none of the serious allegations against him were upheld” and attributed his communication style to a late autism diagnosis.
The TV presenter said he “never set out to harm or humiliate” and is “deeply sorry for any distress” his behaviour caused in a statement to the PA news agency after an investigation substantiated 45 complaints against the former MasterChef presenter.
In a statement to the PA news agency, Gregg said: “For eight months, my family and I have lived under a cloud. Trial by media, fuelled by rumour and clickbait. None of the serious allegations against me were upheld.”
“I challenged the remaining issue of unwanted touching but have had to accept a difference in perception, and I am deeply sorry for any distress caused. It was never intended. I’m relieved that the Banijay report fully recognises that my behaviour changed profoundly in 2018.”
