Gordon Ramsay has added to his massive fortune by releasing a book instructing his ‘idiot’ fans how to make simple things like a sandwich – and it’ll make him a pretty penny
Loaded Gordon Ramsay has landed another massive book deal – so he can tell his “idiot” fans how to make sandwiches.
The potty-mouthed telly chef – worth at least £163million – is taking home another £750,000 for his latest ‘cookbook’, about creating sarnies including a chip butty. Gordon ‘s £26.10 work was inspired by his most viral social media memes featuring the phrase “Idiot sandwich”.
The cook’s Idiot Sandwich: 100+ Recipes to Elevate Your Sandwich Game will be the first title from Bite Books. It’s a new cookbook venture between Fox‘s Studio Ramsay Global and Harper Influence.
Launching on September 30, it is billed as featuring some of Ramsay’s best sandwich recipes for any meal – even dessert. Among the new “recipes” in the book will be how to make the perfect Chip Butty.
Other creations are the Mississippi Slugburger, Sicilian Steak, a Soulful Sushi Sandwich or 58-year-old Gordon’s go-to Beef Wellington Sando.
The “Idiot Sandwich” meme was born from a 2015 parody sketch on The Late Late Show with former chat show host James Corden called ‘Hell’s Cafeteria’.
It saw Gordon putting two slices of bread on US news anchor Julie Chen’s face, shouting at her: “What are you?!” “An idiot sandwich,” she replied.
Official promotion material for Gordon’s upcoming book inspired by the sketch states: “Idiot Sandwich goes back to basics (obviously, for all of us idiots), outlining pantry essentials, equipment (mandolins, meat mallets, and mixers, oh my!), breads, and everything else you need to get prepped.
“Divided into simple, idiot-proof sections, this cookbook will teach you how to make the best sandwiches for morning, noon, and night – and hey, you can even reward yourself with one of our sweet treats, after.
“Developed and curated by Gordon Ramsay himself, and written with Courtney McBroom (co-author of Momofuku Milk Bar, Milk Bar Life and All About Cake), Idiot Sandwich is an outrageously fun guide to achieving that perfect, mouthwatering combination of saucy, crunchy, savoury deliciousness that only a sandwich can deliver.
“If you take nothing else from this book, know that anything can be a sandwich, and any idiot can make one. Yes, that means you!”
The cover features Gordon squashing two sides of a sandwich dripping with mayonnaise and mustard into his cheeks. Lisa Edwards from Studio Ramsay Global said she reckons the book offers “accessibility, irreverence and innovative recipes” and will be a “terrific, new go-to kitchen essential”.
