‘Hawkeye’ star Jeremy Renner was ‘handcuffed to the bed’ by nurses after he tried to leave hospital following his snowplough accident, which left him with over 30 broken bones
Jeremy Renner revealed he was “handcuffed to the bed” to prevent him from attempting to discharge himself from hospital following a severe snowplough accident.
The Hawkeye actor sustained over 30 fractures, a slashed liver and a punctured lung in January 2023 when his snowplough ran him over. He candidly confessed that he was likely “the worst patient ever” due to his stubborn resolve to return home, despite his dire health state.
When quizzed about his self-proclaimed difficult patient status in his autobiography My Next Breath, Jeremy shared with Jimmy Kimmel Live! guest host Jelly Roll: “Oh, yeah – that’s because I kept wanting to break out of the hospital.
” So these poor nurses, you can imagine, I’m kind of high on whatever they’re feeding me.
“I got tubes and epidurals and nine things stuck in me – I’m dragging the machines in the bed. I’m walking on broken legs. I never even made it to the door but once, but they handcuffed me to the bed because I was such a pain in the butt.”
Upon finally returning home from the hospital, the 54-year-old star experienced hallucinations due to the potent painkillers he was prescribed, leading to him having “a conversation with a curtain” at one point and even envisioning an entire social outing with fellow actor Jamie Foxx.
Jeremy recounted: “That was at home, and … yeah. You know, as one might do, that’s when you know you’re not feeling any pain.
“I was talking to objects and Jamie Foxx.”
Renner candidly spoke about the intense medication he received following his horrific snowplough accident, revealing that he experienced vivid hallucinations, including imagining actor Jamie Foxx in his hospital room.
He confessed: “You guys know Jamie Foxx. He was there in my room. Jamie Foxx was there; he was in my room, then we got up and we went snowmobiling. All that happened in my mind. It didn’t happen.”
Jeremy quipped: “It’s good drugs – good drugs.”
