Charli xcx and The 1975 drummer George Daniel have married in a low-key ceremony at Hackney Town Hall, with the pop superstar looking every inch the blushing bride
Charli XCX has tied the knot with The 1975 drummer George Daniel in a low-key ceremony at Hackney Town Hall on Saturday. The beaming couple posed for photos outside the venue, with Charli looking stunning in a white mini-dress featuring a heart-shaped neckline, clutching a bouquet of flowers.
Their intimate wedding, attended by just 20 close friends and family members, came shortly after George returned from his stag do in Ibiza with bandmates, including Matty Healy. The newlyweds even opted to walk to the town hall, shunning the glamour of their showbiz lives.
While George’s bandmates Ross MacDonald and Adam Hann were present, lead singer Matty Healy was noticeably absent from the ceremony. Fans have been showering the couple with congratulations, gushing over Charli’s appearance, with one fan writing: “She looks so good.”
Another fan penned: “OMG, shut up she looks beautiful.”
A third fan offered their well-wishes, saying: “Congratulations, Charli and George,” A fourth fan exclaimed: “Pop royalty just got their crown. Congrats to Charli and George!”, reports the Mirror.
Despite keeping their personal life under wraps, Charli has previously revealed that neither she nor George were particularly fussed about the formal aspect of marriage. In a chat with Harper’s Bazaar, she revealed: “We’re both very chill and we kind of just want to have a party.
“Neither of us are particularly formal about marriage or care about the formalities of the ceremony or whatever. We just want to be together forever and have a party with our friends.”
It was earlier reported that the couple planned to tie the knot in Sicily, sparing no expense for their big day. “Charli and George fell in love with Sicily and knew they wanted to get married there,” an insider shared.
The source further told The Sun: “It’s incredibly secluded and romantic. There will be no expense spared. It’s costing tens of thousands of pounds, and visually it will be mesmerising. Charli and George said they wanted a massive party, and there are no restrictions on when the bar has to close, so it can go on all night.”
The informant also hinted at a star-studded guest list for the wedding. George proposed to Charli in November 2023, a year after they started dating, although they first met at an awards event in 2019.
Sharing a photo of them kissing on Instagram, she captioned it: “charli xcx and george f***ing for life!”.
Another photo revealed Charli’s diamond engagement ring nestled in its box, positioned between two cups of tea. After first crossing paths two years ago, Charli and George collaborated on the No Rome track, Spinning, and continued to work together during the creation of her 2022 album, Crash.
The couple made their relationship public in May 2022, with Charli dedicating her song, Talk Talk, from her hit album Brat, to George. Fans also speculate that her songs Welcome to My Island and Everything Is Romantic may be inspired by the musician.
In a 2023 interview with The Sun, Charli discussed George’s impact on her career and creative process. She shared: “Now that I’m in a relationship with another musician, he’s influenced me a lot with his process and how he and his band work. It’s really different to how I work, and that has definitely influenced me and my process.”
