Charli XCX and The 1975 drummer George Daniel reportedly tied the knot in a private ceremony at Hackney Town Hall on Saturday before heading to a local Italian restaurant and bar
Charli XCX’s wedding bash is reported to have been an intimate affair with just 20 guests and bargain £8 martinis.
The 32-year-old pop star, whose real name is Charlotte Aitchison, tied the knot with The 1975’s drummer George Daniel, 34, in a low-key ceremony at Hackney Town Hall in east London on Saturday.
The newlyweds then reportedly made their way to an Italian restuarant before throwing a knees-up at a trendy local watering hole.
According to a source speaking to The Sun, the pair welcomed around 20 guests for what was branded a “very cool” and personal celebration – quite different from the grander bash they’re planning for Sicily later this year.
Following their vows in Hackney, Charli and George strolled to the neighbouring Italian restaurant Dalla for an exclusive meal.
An insider revealed to The Sun: “Charli’s wedding reception was the epitome of Brat. Her and George wanted to keep it very cool, so they shunned cars and walked down Hackney High Street to get to Dalla. The restaurant had closed for them and they had a massive family-style meal with loads of pasta and champagne.
“People walking past were stunned when they saw Charli and George having a cheeky pre-dinner cigarette outside.
“Charli and George then went to a nearby hotel to get changed before they went to Ellie’s for a party.”
The festivities carried on at Ellie’s, a Dalston boozer that launched in May and is fast becoming recognised as one of London’s hippest hangouts. Ellie’s has gained a reputation for its £8 martinis.
Charli is said to have switched from her £3,300 Vivienne Westwood Nova Cora mini dress into a second white ensemble, apparently as a precaution against potential drink spillages.
“To get in you just had to walk up to the front and say ‘Charli’,” the source revealed. “Once inside, Charli and George had laid on a free bar and there were trays of cigarettes lying around for the smokers. There was a ‘no social media policy’ so no one posted any of the pictures from the reception online. It went on until around 4am when everyone crashed out and went home.”
Reports of the engagement first surfaced in 2023, with The Sun revealing that George had popped the question.
In February 2024, insiders claimed the pair had jetted off to Italy to explore potential venues for their main celebration.
Earlier this month, it emerged that Charli and George had settled on Sicily as the destination for their second, grander wedding ceremony later this year.
An insider told The Sun: “This was the formal wedding and the big event is happening in a few months. “Charli and George had the most perfect day in London. It was everything they wanted it to be – relaxed, informal and fun.”
