Ordinary singer Alex Warren is bowled over by the musc legends who have given their phone number to him and regularly check up on him. However, he needed rescusing from Ed Sheeran after hooking up with the Brit at a bar and Ed dramk him under the table. His wife saved the day.
SCORING the biggest song of the year is impressive but Alex Warren’s greatest achievement is adding celebrity numbers to his phone.
The US star behind Ordinary releases new album, You’ll Be Alright, Kid today and famous pals Lana Del Rey to Noah Kahan will no doubt be giving it a spin and offering feedback.
“Now I text various different people that I prefer not to (name) drop,” revealed Alex. “But it’s been really, really cool to kind of look at my phone and get a text message from someone I grew up obsessed with
.
“And they’re just checking in on me. It’s weird, it’s really weird.”
Another celeb pal is Ed Sheeran but Alex won’t be sharing a beer with him again anytime soon.
“Ed got me drunk,” laughed Alex recalling hooking up with the star earlier this year in the US. “It takes two Modelos (beers) to get me (drunk). He was probably 11 deep. And it was pretty embarrassing.
“I had my wife drive me home. You’re like, ‘honey, pick me up, I’m with Ed Sheeran’.
“But it was really cool. And he is such a sweetheart. I sent him my album and he just gives me the best advice.”
Ed’s words of wisdom related to work ethic rather than songwriting: “Ed kind of has been like, ‘I’ve played thousands of shows and you start to not remember them, but you have to remember just showing up is what makes people so happy’. And I think when I had bronchitis and laryngitis… and had to cancel I felt so devastated.
“His advice really stuck with me…try your best to play the show because they made travel plans. So many of these people looked forward to this day. And regardless of me being at 100 (percent), it still means the world for them for me to show up just because they showed up as well. So I’ve really tried my best.”
Alex launched his new album with a huge gig at London’s Alexandra Palace on Wednesday, part of his Cheaper Than Therapy tour; although he admits that title needs changing for Europe.
“My tickets are Cheaper Than an Hour of Therapy,” he clarified. “Traditionally, but not in the EU. I kind of f**ked that one up. But (in the US) healthcare is expensive.”
The touts are also doing their best to ruin that slogan too: “My tickets are typically cheaper, not with these scalpers f**king me though. Now it’s like $500 to come to a show. So I can’t say it’s Cheaper Than Therapy….well, maybe a very expensive therapist.”
All conquering hit Ordinary has become the world’s best seller in 2025 but modest Alex has been unable to fully enjoy its rampant success: “When it started doing well, I really was terrified it would just drop. And so I was so focused on that of like not letting it drop that I didn’t really get to sit there and be like, ‘wow, look at my life’s changed’.
“I blinked and I saw the charts and I was like, ‘wait, is this real?’ Everyone keeps telling me it’s the biggest song in the world…it’s hard for me to believe, but I think I’ll believe it once it’s all over. And then I’ll be like, ‘damn, I wish I took a second’.”
