Ozzy Osbourne and wife Sharon were long rumoured to have had a ‘death pact’ after she once said they would seek assisted-suicide if either of them developed Alzheimer’s
Rocker Ozzy Osbourne’s death at the age of 76 has reignited rumours that he and wife Sharon had a “death pact”. In the weeks leading up to his death, old comments from Sharon reemerged after she spoke of assisted-suicide and plans to “go to Switzerland”.
However fans ran with the comments and twisted her words into something else. Just days before Ozzy died, daughter Kelly spoke out in an angry Instagram post slamming the claims.
The claims first got brought up in Sharon’s 2007 memoir Survivor: My Story – The Next Chapter. In it, she said she and Ozzy had agreed to get help from assisted-suicide organisation Dignitas if either of them developed dementia. Sharon’s father Don Arden had died from Alzheimer’s and it appeared, as per later comments, she didn’t want to suffer if she got it too.
The same year, Sharon told The Mirror that she “believes in euthanasia”. She added that the couple had “drawn up plans to go to the assisted-suicide flat in Switzerland if we ever have an illness that affects our brains”.
“If Ozzy or I ever got Alzheimer’s, that’s it – we’d be off,” she said.
More recently, it got brought up during a 2023 episode of their podcast, which saw Sharon sit down with son Jack and daughter Kelly.
Jack asked if that plan was still in place, and Sharon appeared to confirm it, saying: “Do you think that we’re going to suffer?”
She went on: “I don’t want it to actually hurt, as well. Mental suffering is enough pain without physical. So, if you’ve got mental and physical – see ya.”
In the lead up to and after Ozzy’s final performance, in which he sat on the stage in a black, bat-emblazoned throne, social media went wild with the old claims.
Many believed the so-called “pact” meant the other would seek assisted-suicide if either of them died. Fans took it as the ultimate sign of love – even though it wasn’t necessarily true.
Earlier in July, it was clear Kelly had had enough. She posted a damning Instagram Story, slamming fans for their discussion of the “death pact”.
She said: “Stop making articles or posts about how you think my parents are having a suicide pact. That was b******* my mum said to get attention one time.”
However, eerily, she also said: “And my dad’s not dying. Stop.”
So, while Sharon and Ozzy did, at least at one point, say they had plans for assisted-suicide, it was only if they got dementia.
