Black Sabbath legend Ozzy Osbourne made a shocking health revelation just over a year before his passing at 76, which was announced yesterday (July 22).

Earlier this month, Ozzy was reunited with his original Black Sabbath bandmates for what was billed as their final performance. The poignant homecoming show, held at Villa Park in Birmingham, saw the heavy-metal icon take to the stage in front of thousands of adoring fans.

Now, less than three weeks after his final performance, fans are mourning the loss of one of heavy metal’s most enduring and influential figures.

In a candid episode of The Osbournes podcast, recorded in January last year, Ozzy spoke openly about his ongoing health battles and paid tribute to his family’s unwavering support.

“These last five years have been hell,” he confessed. “I’ve been a pain in the eye trying to recover. But my family have been so f***ing wonderful. My wife has worked her a*** off trying to help me get back on my feet.”

Ozzy and Sharon’s paths first crossed in 1970, when the former X Factor judge was introduced to the heavy metal star by her father, who was managing Black Sabbath at the time. The couple tied the knot 12 years later and went on to have three children together: Aimee, Kelly and Jack.

Ozzy passed away following a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. Diagnosed with a mild form of the illness in 2003, his health had significantly declined in recent years, prompting numerous surgeries, including a spinal operation in 2023.

As the condition progressed, Ozzy became unable to walk and was often seen performing from a throne — including during his final gig at Villa Park earlier this month. According to the NHS, primary symptoms of Parkinson’s include tremors, slow movement and stiff muscles.

Ozzy, along with Tony Iommi, Bill Ward and Geezer Butler, formed Black Sabbath — a band frequently credited with establishing the heavy-metal genre. Some of their most popular hits include Paranoid, Iron Man and Changes.

Prior to their comeback show at Villa Park last month, the band had not performed together on stage for 20 years, with their last joint performance taking place in 2005 at Ozzfest.

The Osbourne family announced Ozzy’s passing in a statement yesterday:”It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne passed away this morning.

“He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family’s privacy at this time.”
