Emmerdale has confirmed a brand new character will be heading to the village in September, with the actor who plays him previously starring in rival soap EastEnders

Emmerdale is set to welcome a fresh face to the village, with a former EastEnders actor stepping into the role.

The ITV soap will introduce the enigmatic Kev this September, and it’s soon disclosed that he has connections within the village. His arrival is set to create quite the stir, with significant consequences for more than one character.

Chris Coghill, known for his role as the nefarious Tony King in EastEnders, has been cast as Kev and has hinted at exciting developments ahead. Soap producer Laura Shaw has also hinted at dramatic scenes, initially portraying Kev as a seemingly lost individual seeking directions.

As the story unfolds, viewers will discover who Kev is searching for and the reasons behind his visit. The character, whose identity remains under wraps, shares “a strong connection” with Kev, setting the stage for an intriguing plotline.

On joining Emmerdale, Chris expressed his enthusiasm about his new role, suggesting that Kev will certainly “shake things up”. He commented: “I am really happy to be joining the cast of Emmerdale. Kev is definitely going to shake things up a bit and I’m looking forward to getting cracking!”.

“Kev has a strong connection to one of our characters and it’s safe to say his arrival is going to be a massive surprise that will have major repercussions for some of our villagers.”

Beyond his memorable role in EastEnders, Chris has featured in numerous high-profile productions including Slow Horses, The Bay and Shameless. He’s now making his way to the Dales, with viewers able to catch his first appearance at the end of September.

Kev won’t be the sole fresh face in the village, with recent additions including villainous Ray, portrayed by Joe Absolom, and newcomer farmer Celia, brought to life by Jaye Griffiths. Both characters have stirred up drama in the community, with more chaos expected in the coming months.

September will also see a major storyline unfold featuring Aaron Dingle and Mackenzie Boyd. This significant plot will span across several episodes during a pivotal week, with reports suggesting a specially constructed set has been created for the filming.
