This Morning presenter Dermot O’Leary was left in pain on Friday’s show after he suffered an unfortunate injury while trying out Katy Perry’s pre-show beauty ritual
TV host Dermot O’Leary took a bit of a knock live on air during today’s This Morning show, while co-presenting with newcomer Olivia Attwood.
The awkward incident happened when the pair decided to test out Katy Perry’s pre-show beauty ritual, which involves dunking your face in ice water for 18 seconds. Olivia and Dermot gave it a go, but things didn’t quite go as planned for Dermot.
As they counted down and plunged their heads into the icy water, a loud clunking sound was heard, followed by faint laughter. It turned out that Dermot had whacked his head on the rim of the bowl.
Undeterred, the former X-Factor host carried on with the stunt, and after a couple of seconds, the pair resurfaced, with Olivia shrieking, “OH MY GOD!”.
“The bowl is so small!” Dermot exclaimed, rubbing his sore head, as Olivia chuckled, “Did you hit your head on the rim?”, reports the Mirror.
“Yes!” he replied. “How can we not find bigger bowls than that?! That wasn’t worth it!”.
Worried fans quickly took to social media, with one asking, “Why was Dermot trying to dive into a bowl?” and another joking, “We’re gonna need a bigger bowl…” A third viewer wrote, “#DermotOleary needs to have a check after hitting his head on the rim of the bowl on #thismorning,”.
This Morning kicked off the weekend with a fresh face, as Olivia Attwood made her presenting debut on the sofa. The move comes after regular host Alison Hammond announced she’s taking a short break, leaving the team for a few weeks.
On Thursday’s episode, Alison bid farewell to her co-host Dermot, embracing him in a warm hug and saying: “See you in September, bye!” Dermot was visibly downbeat about Alison’s departure, confessing: “I’m sad because it’s your last day for the summer! I’m sad because I won’t see you next week,”.
Alison reassured him, saying: “Aw, not sad; be happy for me! Be happy.”
Dermot proceeded to hand Alison individual flowers from the set as she shared her summer plans.
Olivia’s new role was confirmed a few weeks ago, when she appeared as a guest on the show. During an interview with Ben and Cat about her ITV show, Price of Perfection, she mentioned: “I’m going to be doing a couple of shows in the summer, I’m very excited to be joining you guys.”
She added: “It’s a huge honour. I’ve obviously grown up watching this show, and being part of the Daytime team with the Loose Women has been the best experience. This just feels like a very natural progression.”
