F1’s legendary interviewer Martin Brundle said he would miss Ozzy Osbourne as he began his grid walk ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix, less than a week after the rock legend’s death
Martin Brundle initiated his grid walk at the Belgian Grand Prix with a homage to Ozzy Osbourne. The rock icon passed away last week at 76, less than three weeks following his farewell gig with Black Sabbath in Birmingham.
Osbourne, adored by millions globally, also won over Formula 1 enthusiasts years ago with a memorable cameo during one of Brundle’s pre-race grid walks. Typically, the broadcaster spends some time strolling along the grid before a Grand Prix, engaging with celebrities.
A particularly unforgettable walk occurred when Osbourne was a VIP guest at the 2003 Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, , reports the Mirror.
Numerous journalists attempted to interview him, but Brundle, who was with ITV then, managed to secure the prime spot – although he struggled to make sense of the rocker’s responses.
The interview had to be abruptly ended when Osbourne unexpectedly used profanity, an incident which Brundle later reflected on.
The Brit commented: “He wasn’t fully with it, shall we say. I asked him a question and he gave me a very long, incomprehensible answer.
“I said to him, ‘I’ll try and think of a question to that, but in the meantime how are the dogs?
“And he said, ‘They are at home s****** on the carpets.
“It went out live to millions of people and I got in trouble because I was supposed to have known he would swear if I asked that question. “
This unforgettable incident resurfaced on social media following Osbourne’s passing last week.
Brundle took this opportunity to pay tribute to the late rock icon during his grid walk ahead of Sunday’s Belgian Grand Prix at the rain-drenched Circuit Spa-Francorchamps.
Speaking live on Sky Sports, the presenter shared: “A quick word for probably my most favourite ever grid walk guest: Ozzy Osbourne.
“Condolences to your family and friends, we will miss you. Rest in peace I don’t think quite fits for Ozzy Osbourne.”.
