Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty’s marriage from ‘uninvolved wedding’ to gun scare

This Morning presenter Cat Deeley is separating from her TV star husband of over twelve years, Patrick Kielty – Daily Star takes a deep dive into their relationship after the sad news was announced

This Morning’s Cat Deeley has parted ways with her TV host husband Patrick Kielty.

ITV fans will know Cat, real name Catherine, from her current stint as This Morning’s host as well as her past role on Stars in their Eyes. She also previously co-presented the BBC One show Fame Academy, which is how she met Patrick.

The Irish comedian, presenter and actor is best known for hosting the RTE talk show The Late Late Show. Patrick also landed a gig on the BBC One talent show back in 2002 and the pair quickly became friends after working together.

Cat and Pat later made their first public appearance as a couple in 2011 and just a year on they tied the knot during a romantic ceremony in Rome, Italy.

The This Morning star previously admitted to Closer: “Patrick went and tried the food and did all that, I never even saw the place where I got married before I got married, that’s how uninvolved I was.”

They moved out to California and spent most of their relationship living in Los Angeles, for around 15 years.

While situated across the pond, Cat hosted the US TV series So You Think You Can Dance. However, a horrifying incident caused the parents to rethink their decision after Patrick and their son Milo were caught in a gun incident in a shopping mall.

Back in 2020, Cat opened up about what happened and explained: “Everyone was told to lie behind the counter or pushed into the loos. People were screaming and crying.”

“Then as they were all hiding the FBI turned up with guns. Paddy kept Milo calm, he didn’t really know what was going on.”

“As I was driving I began to see helicopters, news vans, firemen and armed police response squads. It makes me go funny now. It was terrifying, Paddy was shaken by it, more than Milo, who didn’t properly understand. The gun laws in America are crazy.”

After this, Cat and Pat moved their family back to the UK and left behind their swanky Beverly Hills pad, instead opting to settle in a five bedroom house in London.

On 29 July 2025, the couple announced that they were calling time on their marriage of over 12 years. Just months before their 13th wedding anniversary, they released a joint statement to the PA news agency: “We have taken the decision to end our marriage and are now separated. There is no other party involved.”

The duo have confirmed that they will be putting their children first

“We will continue to be united as loving parents to our children and would therefore kindly ask for our family privacy to be respected. There will be no further comment.”

In March it was reported that Cat did not attend Patrick’s mother’s funeral. The event was held in Dundrum, Ireland, and an ITV spokesperson told Daily Mail: “Cat remained at home to be there for her two young children before and after school on this very sad day.”
