The White House has been slammed by Jess Glynne after the American administration used one of her most iconic songs in a recent controversial social media post
British songstress Jess Glynne has expressed her outrage after the White House used one of her hit tracks in a contentious social media post. The official X account for the White House raised eyebrows on Tuesday when it utilised the voiceover from a Jet2 advert, which features Jess’ tune Hold My Hand, to seemingly poke fun at a group of migrants being deported.
The audio clip, which has become a viral sensation and sparked countless memes, starts with Jess belting out her 2015 smash before actress Zoe Lister chimes in with the line “nothing beats a Jet2 holiday”.
In a move that has stirred controversy, the White House hopped on the bandwagon alongside numerous influencers and companies, repurposing the voiceover from the British airline’s commercial in an attempt to create a buzz online.
Their tweet depicted individuals in handcuffs being escorted by faceless Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers onto a GlobalX plane – a firm often used by ICE.
The contentious tweet was captioned: “When ICE books you a one-way Jet2 holiday to deportation. Nothing beats it!” reports the Mirror.
Jess, the voice behind Hold My Hand, has now come forward to condemn the distasteful tweet from the official account of the US President’s residence and office, expressing her revulsion at the use of her music in such a context.
Jess shared a screenshot of the controversial tweet with her Instagram followers, expressing her disgust: “This post honestly makes me sick. My music is about love, unity, and spreading positivity – never about division or hate.”
In response to Jess’ share, one Twitter user demanded legal action: “I need her AND Jet2 to sue him separately for the maximum amount of money,” while another supported her message of healing: “Her music is for healing not for hate. Love wins every time.”
Another commenter applauded the artist’s stance: “Good. artists gotta protect their art from becoming propaganda. White House probably thought they were being cute but just exposed how out of touch they are lol.”
President Trump left Scotland on Tuesday, concluding his five-day visit as Air Force One departed from RAF Lossiemouth in Moray.
Trump wrapped up his stay by inaugurating a new golf course at his Menie resort in Aberdeenshire on Tuesday morning, followed by a helicopter flight to the RAF base after playing on the new course.
During his trip, he spent time at his other Scottish property in Turnberry, South Ayrshire, indulging in several golf sessions. Although the visit was largely private, he welcomed Sir Keir Starmer to both of his resorts on Monday.
EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also met with Trump at Turnberry on Sunday. As he opened the new Aberdeenshire course, Trump announced plans for a quick game before heading back to Washington to “put out fires all over the world”.
The US president swung into action in front of a select audience that included golfing legends, football celebrities, Scottish First Minister John Swinney and Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar.
Before driving the inaugural ball on the New Course, the US president addressed the crowd from the grandstand: “We started with a beautiful piece of land, but we made it much more beautiful. I look forward to playing it today.”
He then added: “We’ll play it very quickly and then I go back to DC and we put out fires all over the world. We did one yesterday – you know we stopped the war. We’ve stopped about five wars. That’s much more important than playing golf. As much as I like it, it’s much more important.”
Following a private dinner with First Minister Mr Swinney on Monday evening, the two held a more official discussion on Tuesday before the course’s opening, concentrating on Scotch whisky tariffs and the ongoing situation in Gaza.
