Jack Osbourne has confessed that he and his rarely-seen sister Aimee Osbourne are “not close at all” whilst opening up about her choice not to appear on classic MTV series The Osbournes. The groundbreaking reality programme tracked rock legend Ozzy Osbourne and his clan across four series. Whilst Jack, 39, and his sister Kelly, 40, became stars of the MTV sensation, 41-year-old Aimee chose to stay completely away from the cameras.

Aimee allegedly worried she’d be perceived as “riding on the coat-tails” of her relatives whilst attempting to establish herself in the music world.

During an appearance on the Disrespectfully podcast, Jack revealed: “Back then she really wanted to be a musician and the kind of musician she wanted to be was like a Fiona Apple, Mazzy Star, like this kind of obscure, mysterious, moody…and she deemed doing a show on MTV as low-hanging fruit.

“She was like, ‘I’m not going to be seen riding coat-tails,’ kind of thing, that’s how she perceived it,” reports the Mirror.

He continued: “Once the show was hugely successful I think she was kind of like, ‘Well I can’t now come on because I don’t want to be seen even more so as jumping on the bandwagon’. And she dug her heels in and wanted to be relatively private and obscure.”

The Osbournes is credited with blazing the trail for reality programmes centred around celebrity households. It chronicled the family navigating challenging situations including Sharon’s cancer diagnosis and a quad bike crash that nearly claimed Ozzy’s life.

When questioned about whether Aimee had any regrets over not participating in the programme, Jack responded: “I’ve never had the conversation with her, we’re not close at all. We don’t have a great relationship, she’ll be the first to tell you that, so it’s no secret.

“I’ve never asked her outright, ‘Do you regret it’. I think there must be a level of like, ‘Hey, my life would have probably been different than what it is if I’d done that’, so I don’t know, I think I would feel like I would have regretted it.”

When pressed on whether he’s “glad” he took part in the series, Jack answered: “Absolutely, it was such an interesting thing to be a part of, especially how much media has changed, there’s just not that level of excitement around TV anymore like there was back then.”

Aimee was recently seen with her relatives as she attended her father’s memorial. The rock legend Ozzy passed away aged 76 on July 22, just weeks following his final appearance with Black Sabbath.

The family paused at Black Sabbath bridge in Birmingham to view the tributes left by thousands of admirers since Ozzy’s passing. They encountered supporters chanting “Ozzy” and lingered for approximately five minutes before the cortege moved on.

The Black Sabbath lead singer was interred beside an ornamental lake on his 250-acre Buckinghamshire estate. Following his death, devotees have placed floral tributes outside the grounds.
