US president Donald Trump reignited his feud with Taylor Swift, by calling her “no longer hot,” as he fawned over Hollywood actress Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle ad
President Donald Trump has made some rather strange comments about two of the biggest stars in pop culture, Taylor Swift and Sydney Sweeney.
Over the weekend, Trump went on Truth Social to comment on Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney after discovering she is a registered Republican.
He praised her American Eagle ad campaign, calling it the “HOTTEST ad out there” and claiming the jeans were “flying off the shelves.” Before adding: “Go get ’em, Sydney!”
The ad itself has stirred up controversy. In it, Sweeney talks about her “genes” before revealing she’s actually talking about her “jeans.”
Critics online accused the campaign of hinting at eugenics because of its focus on genetic traits and Sweeney’s classic “all-American” look with blonde hair and blue eyes. American Eagle defended the campaign, saying it was always just about selling jeans.
Tough Trump’s recent praise for Sweeney didn’t come without a jab at one of his favourite celeb targets, Taylor Swift. He declared that Swift is now “no longer hot,” claiming he was responsible for her supposed fall in popularity. According to Trump, after he criticised her online, she was booed at the Super Bowl and lost her “hot” status.
The former president also used the moment to attack “woke” culture, saying that being woke is “for losers,” while calling Republican stars like Sweeney the real winners.
His comments quickly went viral, fuelling both praise from his supporters and backlash from critics who see his remarks as sexist and politically charged.
One viral ad and a few Truth Social posts have now turned into a larger conversation about politics in advertising, the ongoing culture wars, and how celebrities get caught in the crossfire.
