Kym Marsh has hit out at those who haven’t been there to support her after the death of her cousin.

The 49-year-old actress, who sadly lost her beloved dad last year, has revealed that her cousin Carl had died. She said he was a “legend to all who knew him” and “one of a kind” in a heartbreaking Instagram tribute to her family member.

The Coronation Street star has taken to social media to thank those who have been supporting her in such a difficult time, and shared her disappointment at those who had failed to do so.

In a follow-up post on her Instagram stories, she wrote: “Friends are the family you choose! Thank you so much to everyone who has checked in today to see how I am when I needed you the most! I love you all!

“Those that haven’t… you know who you are!” It comes after her recent announcement that she has teamed up with a soap star for a new Channel 5 drama.

Kym first announced Carl’s passing yesterday (August 8), telling followers: “I can’t believe I’m writing this. Today our family say goodbye to Carl. My cousin. A legend to all who knew him. A light turned out far too soon. A huge hole in our lives that will never be filled.”

“A huge hole in our lives that will never be filled. Sometimes life makes no sense. There are times when you just can’t understand how such cruel things happen, to good honest people. This is one of those times.

She reflected on their childhood, adding: “Carl was the kindest, funniest, most unique person I’ve ever known… I will miss you until the end of time.”

Kym said she could hear Carl telling her not to cry, writing: “And I know you would be telling me to stop being a silly a*** and stop crying, and that you would want me to be where I am doing what I’m doing.

“Doesn’t stop me wishing I was there, or thinking of my family today, or grieving, or wishing I could make this better for everyone. I know that the family will give you the best send off cuz and that they will do you proud. We will love you forever and always. Good night god bless my wonderful cousin. Sleep tight.”

It comes amid the passing of Kym’s on-screen father from Coronation Street, Frank Grimes. Frank played Barry Connor in the ITV soap between 2008 and 2015 – once returning to the soap for Kym’s character Michelle Connor’s wedding to Steve McDonald.

He died on August 1 at the age of 78 following a short illness, surrounded by his family. The Irish Cultural Centre described Frank as “one of Ireland’s greatest actors”, writing: “He was so warm hearted, full of Dublin wit and charm in abundance and he had a beautiful sparkle in his eyes.”

Their tribute continued: “We know that Ireland has lost one of its truly great actors, the vintage of which is so rare and may never ever be matched again… We send our sincere condolences to his wife Ginnette, his daughter Tilly, his son Andrew, his 7 grandchildren and to all his extended family.”
