Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announce huge ‘multi-year’ Netflix deal in shock move

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have announced a massive new Netflix deal.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a huge contract, worth an estimated $100m [£74million], with the streaming giant after they quit as senior working royals in 2020. It’s where they released their explosive docuseries Harry & Meghan which documented their exit from royal life and move to the US.

And despite speculation about their future on Netflix, the royal couple have now extended their partnership with it through their production company Archewell Productions. They’ve signed a “multi-first look deal for film and television projects” with the streaming titan.

Meghan said of the deal: “We’re proud to extend our partnership with Netflix and expand our work together to include the As ever brand.

“My husband and I feel inspired by our partners who work closely with us and our Archewell Productions team to create thoughtful content across genres that resonates globally, and celebrates our shared vision.”

Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s chief content officer, said: “Harry and Meghan are influential voices whose stories resonate with audiences everywhere.

“The response to their work speaks for itself — Harry & Meghan gave viewers an intimate look into their lives and quickly became one of our most-watched documentary series.

“More recently, fans have been inspired by With Love, Meghan, with products from the new As ever line consistently selling out in record time. We’re excited to continue our partnership with Archewell Productions and to entertain our members together.”

The new deal will include a second season of Meghan’s lifestyle show With Love, Meghan and a holiday CHristmas special in December. Archewell Productions is also working on a doc called Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within, about orphaned children in Uganda’s Masaka region which is still affected by the HIV/Aids crisis.

There is also “active development” on other Netflix projects which “span a variety of content genres”. This includes a feature adaptation of the bestselling romantic novel by Carley Fortune, Meet Me At The Lake.

Meghan’s Netflix show, which features cameos from Harry, first aired in April. The duchess shared her joy at it being renewed for another season, writing on Instagram: “Lettuce romaine calm… or not(!) because I’m thrilled to share that Season 2 of ‘With Love, Meghan’ is coming!”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex live in Santa Barbara in Montecito. They moved there in 2020 after leaving their British residence of Frogmore Cottage.
