Tom Skinner, who appeared on The Apprentice in 2019, met up with US vice president JD Vance and his friends and family after the pair had previously chatted on social media
Former The Apprentice contestant Tom Skinner has described his barbecue and drinks with US vice president JD Vance as a “once-in-a-lifetime” experience. The 34-year-old entrepreneur, who has gained notoriety on social media platform X after appearing on the BBC business programme, enjoyed an evening with US president Donald Trump’s deputy Mr Vance alongside his mates and relatives, following previous conversations between the pair on the social media site.
Posting on X, rumoured Strictly star Skinner wrote: “When the vice president of the USA invites you for a barbecue and beers, you say yes.
“Unreal night with JD and his friends and family. He was a proper gent. Lots of laughs and some fantastic food. A brilliant night, one to tell the grand kids about.”
In a subsequent post he continued: “Here is a pic of me and vice president @JDVance towards the end of the night after a few beers.
“I’m overdressed in my suit, but when the VP invites you to a BBQ, you don’t risk turning up in shorts and flip-flops.
“Cracking night in the beautiful English countryside with JD, his friends and family. Once in a lifetime. Bosh.”
Mr Vance had previously backed Skinner on X, after the celebrity claimed he had been subjected to “death threats” and “vile comments about my children”, following a string of posts asserting “something’s gone wrong” in the UK, and declaring “there is nothing wrong with being proud of where you’re from”.
In response to a post lamenting alleged abuse, Mr Vance responded with an image of a cartoon character and a message stating: “Hang in there, my friend. Remember that 90% of people attacking your family look like this.”
Skinner had previously expressed views such as it being “not far-right” to be “flying your flag and loving your country”, and voiced concerns about safety in London, describing the city as “hostile” and “tense”.
Mr Vance’s rendezvous with Skinner followed his visit to foreign secretary David Lammy’s Chevening country estate the previous week.
During the 15th series of The Apprentice in 2019, Skinner was given the boot by Lord Alan Sugar in the ninth week.
