The family of Patrick Kielty have been left fuming following the end of his marriage to presenter Cat Deeley, as they have been left disappointed by a pivotal moment
Patrick Kielty’s family were reportedly left seething over a key incident that marked the end of his marriage to Cat Deeley.
The famous pair confirmed their split last month with a joint statement, saying: “We have taken the decision to end our marriage and are now separated. There is no other party involved.”
They further stated: “We will continue to be united as loving parents to our children and would therefore kindly ask for our family privacy to be respected. There will be no further comment.”
It’s thought that Cat Deeley’s absence from Patrick’s mother Mary’s funeral in March caused considerable upset within the Kielty clan, with many viewing this as a clear sign that their relationship was beyond repair.
A family member expressed their disappointment to the Daily Mail, stating: “Whatever rockiness was going on in the marriage, something as momentous as his mother’s funeral, you would makeup even temporarily and just put your ‘best face’ on as we say in Northern Ireland”.
They added: “Cat obviously knew how close Patrick was to Mary and she should have come to be by his side, a hand on his shoulder as he buried his mother,” reports Wales Online.
“The fact that she stayed in London and presented This Morning on the day, it’s not been forgotten.”
The source disclosed that people are still shocked by Cat’s actions, saying: “It was the point when we all realised that that marriage had ended.”
A spokesperson told Mirror at the time: “Cat stayed at home to be there for her two young children before and after school on this very sad day.”
Patrick’s family are reportedly rallying around him as he faces the future. The duo first met while co-hosting BBC’s Fame Academy in 2002.
However, they didn’t make their relationship public until nine years later in 2011.
Just a year later, in September 2012, they tied the knot in a ceremony in Rome and have since had two children together.
While Cat co-hosts This Morning with Ben Shephard, Northern Irish presenter Patrick helms RTE chat show The Late Late Show, taking over from Ryan Tubridy in 2023.
The exact timing of the couple’s split is unclear. However, it’s believed that their separate living arrangements due to work commitments in Ireland and London may have contributed to their relationship breakdown.
The last time Cat mentioned Patrick on her Instagram was in October 2023.
In that post, she shared a quirky collection of 90s-inspired photos of them both.
She captioned it: “Slightly terrifying but obsessed.”
Their last public appearance as a couple was a month earlier. She also shared a photo of them at the event on her social media, smiling as they got ready for the occasion and later sitting among the audience.
