‘Taylor Swift’s eight-word podcast summary is life-changing and I’ll never forget it’

Taylor Swift recently made her podcast debut on New Heights with her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his brother Jason, and shared some truly life-changing advice, according to one journalist

News of Taylor Swift’s eagerly awaited 12th album has sent fans into complete meltdown and, while this reaction is one I know All Too Well (see what I did there?), I was recently more stunned by eight words she uttered during her debut podcast appearance. The international megastar recently joined her beau Travis Kelce and his brother Jason on their popular podcast, New Heights.

An absolute fantasy for Swifties worldwide – two hours of Taylor discussing, comprehensively, numerous facets and revelations about her private and career life, alongside her “human exclamation point” of a boyfriend.

Throughout her two-decade journey, the 35-year-old performer has been well-acquainted with interviews, but an extended podcast feature hadn’t been in her plans until this moment.

Fans received the enormous announcement of the album disclosure – The Life of a Showgirl will drop on 3rd October 2025.

The self-proclaimed numerology enthusiast chose this date – 10/3 – to connect with her beloved number 13, while the 12 songs celebrate the achievement of a twelfth record.

Taylor also discussed regaining ownership of her master recordings, becoming visibly moved as she reflected on the immense importance of an aspiration she’s harboured since inking her initial recording contract as a teen finally being realised.

However, it was her perspective on social media that truly struck a chord with me.

In a society overwhelmed by relentless online material riddled with, at times, unavoidable viewpoints, the legendary artist remains largely absent from digital platforms. And she delivered a fresh and, in my view, transformative outlook.

She explained: “Think of your energy as if it’s expensive.”

As someone prone to anxiety who finds it far too simple to let harsh remarks spiral through my mind, this struck me as a brilliant and thoughtful approach from arguably the planet’s biggest celebrity.

Taylor was discussing her mates and contacts who appear to react much like I do.

She explained: “They’ll see one comment they don’t like and it’ll ruin their day, it’ll ruin their night and I just wanna say to them, you should think of your energy as if it’s expensive, as if it’s a luxury item.

“Not everyone can afford it, not everyone has invested in you in order to be able to have the capital for you to care about this. What you spend your energy on, that’s the day.”

Taylor Alison Swift, what an absolute legend you are. I’m going to treasure this wisdom every single day.

Why do we allow ourselves to be so wounded by remarks from people who mean nothing to us?

Why do we tumble into the pitfall of worrying about vicious comments or twisted views from complete strangers online?

Another phrase I adore – though this one wasn’t created by Swift – is “never take criticism from someone you wouldn’t go to for advice”.

Taylor’s words reminded me of this clever, helpful piece of advice for navigating an increasingly negative and critical world.

To me, it also showed that despite her unfathomable star power which continues to rise; despite the accolades and achievements; and the worldwide obsession with every aspect of her life; she is, at her core, the same person who used to scour Tumblr in the early days of her career, connecting with fans and offering well thought out and considered advice.

Her words didn’t feel like they were coming from the biggest celebrity on the planet, they felt like those of a great friend who has your best interests at heart.

Of course, Taylor Swift will never know I exist but I will carry her words with me forever.

This segment of the podcast was shared on X, where fans shared their thoughts. One person said: “There’s a reason why she’s called Dr Taylor Alison Swift.”

Another said: “Ok fine [I’ll] go and watch the best episode of the podcast again. I need my therapy session.”

A third added: “She’s the icon of wisdom, what did you expect.”
