It’s been 22 long years, but Brookside is finally making its eagerly awaited return – for a limited time only. The cherished Merseyside soap will be back this October as part of a special crossover episode with Hollyoaks to celebrate the latter’s 30th milestone.
Both shows spring from the creative mind of renowned writer Sir Phil Redmond, who has voiced his enthusiasm about witnessing his two creations join forces. He recently said: “I can’t wait to see how all the gardens are coping in the heatwave and, who knows, what might pop up if someone decides to re-lay their patio. I know we left something else down there.”
Brookside, which originally broadcast on Channel 4 from 1982 to 2003, launched countless faces to fame who have since gone on to even greater achievements. Anna Friel made her small-screen breakthrough as Beth Jordache over two series, while Sue Johnston and Ricky Tomlinson – who played Sheila and Bobby Grant respectively during the 1980s – would later be reunited in the BBC’s beloved sitcom The Royle Family in the late 1990s.
The soap became so popular that it even attracted several famous guest spots, and here we look at the six most notable cameos who graced Brookside Close.
