Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin has opened up about his unexpected cartoon hero, Homer Simpson, and explained his unexpected love comes from one strange reason
Coldplay star Chris Martin says his hero is Homer Simpson. The 48-year-old musician may seem the polar opposite of The Simpsons character as Chris doesn’t drink, while Homer loves beer, and the Yellow singer believes in solving every problem with love and compassion, whereas Homer reacts to life’s problem with anger.
However, Chris says Homer – who was created by Matt Groening – epitomises what it is to be human because he makes mistakes all the time but ultimately he has a good heart.
Speaking on the #ABTalks podcast, he said: “I have to say Homer Simpson. I just think he’s one of the most beautifully constructed characters in all of creativity because he’s so human and does stupid things and makes mistakes but his heart is good.
“He’ll always make the right decision in the end. He’s angry and full of all the emotions, but ultimately he will always do the right thing.
“I think maybe that’s why he’s so popular. I think that’s all of us, we hope.”
Chris has appeared in an episode of The Simpsons just like so many music legends have done before him. In the 2010 story Million Dollar Maybe, Chris as himself after Homer wins $1 million in the lottery and hires Coldplay for a private concert.
The episode features Homer secretly using his winnings to hire the band for a performance for Bart and himself.
When Bart discovers Homer’s scheme, he threatens to reveal it to Marge unless Homer lets him join the concert.
