Good Morning Britain’s Richard Madeley and Kate Garraway were presenting the ITV breakfast show when something made him get up and walk off set
Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway presented the show solo after Richard Madeley suddenly departed the studio.
During 25 August’s instalment of the ITV breakfast programme Kate, 58, and Richard, 69, returned to present the day’s headlines. The pair invited managing director of the British Toilet Association Raymond Martin to chat about the shortage of public conveniences.
According to Raymond, there are now nearly half the number of public loos compared to 25 years ago and he said Britain is facing a “national crisis of convenience”.
The toilet talk had an immediate effect on Richard who declared: “Talking about it, now I need to go on a break,” reports the Mirror.
The studio erupted in laughter as he added: “That’s the psychological impact of it. [Addressing Raymond] Well, I’ll think about you when I spend a penny.” Raymond laughed as Kate said: “Good thing you’ve got a good sense of humour.”
As Kate tried to outline the upcoming headlines Richard couldn’t hold on any longer and rose from his chair to make an exit. Kate was left to handle a portion of the programme single-handedly and told the camera: “Richard is off the loo now.”
Neither presenter acknowledged Richard’s sudden departure after they returned from an ad break. Earlier in the show, weather presenter Laura Tobin revealed that this Bank Holiday could be one of the hottest on record for Britain with temperatures potentially soaring to a tropical 30 degrees in some areas.
Tobin announced: “Good morning to you. It is a Bank Holiday Monday for some of us, and it could be record-breakingly warm and it is down to the remnants of record-breakingly warm hurricane Erin that brought very stormy conditions across eastern parts of America.”
“This is a satellite showing the spiral of clouds heading our way and what it does is it brings up very warm air from the nearby continent, so these are the highest temperatures that England, Wales, and Northern Ireland have seen on August Bank Holiday Monday, and Wales and Northern Ireland could break those records today.”
