Beloved indie rocker dies just weeks after major festival as band share heartbreak

The Ultra Violets drummer Tyler Harris has sadly died.

The British indie band have been left heartbroken over his passing, which came just weeks after they performed at the Isle of Wight Festival. The four-piece had performed at the major festival back in June alongside the likes of Sting, Justin Timberlake and Stereophonics.

The four-piece, made up of vocalists Perran Nicholls and Marc Willoughby, bassist Adam Knucky, and the late drummer Tyler, have decided to take a break from their career to process their devastating loss. The band said they love him “with all our hearts”.

In an emotional statement posted on Instagram, the band wrote: “This is something we never thought we’d have to write. But our beloved Tyler, a son, a brother, an uncle, a partner, our friend and our heartbeat has tragically passed away.

“We hope you can respect our privacy at this difficult time, we will be taking some time out to process this. Tyler we love you with all our hearts, play that kit loud up there won’t you.”

The band added to their post three broken heart emojis and the names of the three surviving members, Perran, Marc and Adam. The band shared several photos of Tyler which showed him playing his drums in the recording studio and smiling backstage.

A cause of death has not been confirmed. Tributes to Tyler flooded in from fans and fellow musicians, with fellow indie rock band The Slates writing: “So sorry to hear this guys, our thoughts are with you all.”

The Mercians said: “Sending so much love boys.” One added: “I’m so sorry for your loss guys, terrible news. Sending so much love to you all.”

The band posted a follow-up statement thanking everyone for the support. They wrote: “Thank you all for the love and support, it’s been the hardest few days ever! Tyler wouldn’t believe how much love he’s got right now a love I wish he was here to see, he really was the kindest and funniest soul around. Thank you again everyone keep sharing his memory.”

The Ultra Violets hail from Cornwall and released their debut single, Romance, in April 2021. The track about love was praised by Amazing Radio and Radio X, reaching millions of listeners nationwide.

They released their single Honeypie in June following their two EPs Pop and In Theatre, which both came out last year. Pete Doherty said the band have “really good songs” and The Pigeon Detectives affectionately dubbed them the “best dressed band” in a long time.

The Ultra Violets have shared the stage with the likes of indie icons The Pigeon Detectives and Space, and have performed at UK festivals such as Boardmasters, Leopallooza, and the Isle of Wight Festival.
