Queen top the list of Brits’ dream musical comebacks, after Oasis’ reformation saw them take the country by storm.
With Oasis fever sweeping the nation, researchers asked music fans to rate the artists and bands, that they would most dream of coming back and seeing live, with Queen (29%) being voted top.
Artists from across the decades such as The Beatles (28%), Fleetwood Mac (19%), Spice Girls (13%), Girls Aloud (10%) and Aretha Franklin (9%) also make the list of musical stars we would love to experience live.
Elvis (23%), Whitney Houston (20%) and R.E.M (13%), also made the list.
70% say they are loving seeing Oasis return to the live music scene, with half (47%) admitting they would do whatever they can to find a way to see their favourite bands if they would ever return to the stage.
It’s no surprise that nine in ten (90%) agree that watching live music is one of life’s greatest pleasures, with three quarters (73%) loving the atmosphere and two thirds (66%) revelling in the experience.
Over half (59%) say nothing beats watching live music with their partner, while 53% love rocking out with their friends.
The 90s (45%) were voted the best decade for music, followed by the 80s (40%), 2000s (30%) and 70s (20%), according to the 2,000 Brits polled, by Marella Cruises, TUI’s UK ocean cruise line.
Nine in ten (92%) also use music to help get them in the mood for a holiday, with 90s songs (49%), classic holiday anthems (36%), 00s songs (23%) and lounge music (21%) all giving us that holiday vibe.
However, despite our passion for music, almost half (48%) say listening to it on speakers or phones is not the same as watching it live, which is why Brits are planning to go to an average of three live gigs and festivals this year.
Two thirds (64%) want to go to more gigs this year than last year, to make the most of who is playing live (44%) and making a comeback (43%).
Other things that make live music mind-blowing include making long lasting memories (52%), dancing the night away (40%), spending time with friends (37%), singing along at the top of your lungs (37%) and feeling the beat in your bones (37%).
To help the nation get their 90s music fix and live their fantasy gig, Marella Cruises has launched its ‘Electric Sunsets 90s vs 00s’ themed cruise – a three-day adult-only themed cruise, which is bringing back the 90s and 00s with headlining acts such as Kimberly Wyatt from the Pussycat Dolls and B*Witched.
Chris Hackney, Managing Director at Marella Cruises said: “The latest research highlights a growing trend among Brits embracing musical comebacks—especially from the 90s, which remains the nation’s most beloved music decade.
That’s why we’re thrilled to be bringing back our Electric Sunsets themed cruise for its fifth year. The themed cruise offers a unique way to sail the Mediterranean whilst combining unforgettable entertainment with a nostalgic twist including acts such as Kimberly Wyatt from the Pussycat Dolls, B*Witched, and Booty Luv. Passengers, whether new to cruising or seasoned cruisers, can relive iconic hits while enjoying a one-of-a-kind cruise holiday experience.”
