Penny Lancaster has opened up about her marriage to Sir Rod Stewart, revealing the singer still likes to have a say in what she wears – and he’s not a fan of trousers
Penny Lancaster’s husband Sir Rod Stewart tells her what clothes he prefers her to wear. The 54-year-old former model – who wed Rod, 80, in 2007 – has revealed how the rocker continues to influence her fashion choices, even after decades together.
Speaking to the Daily Mail whilst promoting her forthcoming memoir Someone Like Me, Penny opened up about instances where Rod guided her towards particular looks, even pre-selecting designer ensembles ahead of their holidays – whilst confessing Rod despises seeing her in trousers.
She said: “When you think about controlling, coercive behaviour and the signs to look for, you could think, hang on – telling me how to dress, what to wear.
“But (his preferences weren’t) coming from that direction. He knew I was coming into a lifestyle where there were wealthy people, and I was going to require different outfits. And he thought: ‘She’s special, I’m going to treat her. I’m going to surprise her.'”.
Penny described how during an early getaway to Barbados, Rod told her not to bother unpacking as he’d filled the villa with rails of couture garments in her exact measurements.
She recalled: “He was clearly a man used to being in command of his world, including what I’d wear on holiday.”
Penny noted his tastes haven’t shifted over time. She explained: “He’ll pick something up in a shop and say, ‘Darling, look at this.’ And I’ll say: ‘That’s skintight and not for my tummy.’
“‘OK, what about this?’ And I’ll say, ‘My boobs are too big for it, darling.’ He doesn’t see me as I see me. I’ve aged, but he doesn’t see it. How lovely is that?”.
Penny disclosed that Rod frequently expresses his disapproval of particular outfits. According to The Mail, Rod “firmly prefers his wife in skirts”, and occasionally chides her with the phrase: “Oi. Trousers!”.
