Katie Price’s iconic 2017 single I Got U has hit the charts eight years after it was released with fans rallying behind her during her ongoing feuds with her ex-husbands
Katie Price has achieved what many thought was impossible and has hit the No1 spot with her music. The 47-year-old has recently been drawn into very public feuds with her ex-husbands. Peter Andre released a bombshell statement about the care of their shared children, while Alex Reid posted a video in which she slated Peter’s kids with his wife Emily.
But in a moment of happiness for the former glamour model, her 2017 track I Got U has climbed up the charts, reaching the top spot on the iTunes chart. Her song Hurricane also got to No6 there.
She even beat the likes of Ed Sheeran, K-Pop Demon Hunters and Chappell Roan on Global’s Big Top 40 on Sunday, with I Got U reaching No3.
It’s all come as a surprise for Katie, who has described it as a dream come true.
But why is it happening now, eight years after I Got U was released?
Why is Katie Price charting?
In recent weeks, Katie has found herself at the centre of a number of public attacks from her ex-husbands.
Die-hard fans have been showing their support for her on social media, with many looking back at her old reality shows with ex Peter Andre.
Many feel she has been treated unfairly by the men in her life, so decided to support her music as a way to get back at them.
Last week, fans started a campaign on TikTok to get Katie to No1.
One person said they wanted to “remind Pete he was never the main character”, instructing other fans to stream, share and support Katie’s music.
They went on: “All the exes in the world couldn’t dim her shine,” adding: “They played their games, she played it smart. Now let’s get Pricey to number on on the charts.”
After the success, they said: “This isn’t just a chart position – it’s proof that survivors’ voices can rise above smear campaigns, hate and silence.”
They added: “Thank you for standing with us, for pushing with us, for proving that together, we rise.”
What is the Big Top 40?
Unfortunately for Katie, her success isn’t quite as exciting as it could be just yet.
Global’s Big Top 40 is different from the Official Singles Chart, which airs on BBC Radio 1 and has been a staple for more than 70 years.
The Big Top 40, which airs on a Sunday, compiles its chart based on Apple Music streaming and sales, as well as airplay data from radio stations that the show is broadcast on.
The Official Chart, on the other hand, is much more comprehensive and holds more weight.
Airing on a Friday, it takes into account more than 99% of UK single consumption, from 8,000 sources, including sales and streaming from the likes of Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube and physical stores such as HMV and supermarkets.
It’s yet to be seen whether or not Katie will actually find herself in the Official Singles Chart this coming Friday, but as of now she is not in the top 100.
