TV icon Jasper Carrott has been spotted for the first time since turning 80.

The beloved comic shot to fame in the 1970s and hosted shows like Carrott’s Lib and the beloved ITV game show Golden Balls. The Brummie star – whose real name is Robert Davis – was spotted enjoying some downtime with pals, including TV star Nick Owen.

Jasper was on a daytime double date with his wife of over 50 years, Hazel Jackson, Nick and Nick’s Wife, Jill Lively. The group tucked into lunch at the Boot Inn pub in Birmingham and Jasper was all smiles on the outing.

The TV veteran looked incredibly fit and healthy for his age and pub-goers said he was in fine form, cracking jokes over lunch. The group were in high spirits as they smiled outside of the pub.

Jasper is currently on the road with his show, An Evening Shared with Jasper Carrott & Rory Bremner. The show, billed as “a rollicking night of laughter and impressions”, is coming to Saffron Walden’s Saffron Hall on September 17 and 18.

Jasper is also joined by old TV mates such as Alistair McGowan and ABBA tribute group Strictly ABBA on some dates. The tour announced extra dates last year due to “phenomenal demand”.

He recently said he doesn’t perform as much as he used to but does it because “i just really love it, really enjoy it”. He joked to the BBC: “Of course I get the sympathy vote from the audience – ‘oh the poor old devil, let’s go and see, it’s probably the last chance we’ll get to see him’.”

Eight years ago, Jasper had major heart surgery – a triple bypass which became a quadruple. He said he’s had an “absolutely brilliant life” and, mentioning wife Helen, was married to “one of the best women in the world”.

“It feels the same as when I was eight,” he added. “You wake up in the morning and you get on with the day. Long may it continue.”

He praised fellow comic Peter Kay for having “funny bones” and admitted he thinks he’s “always had to win the audience over”. He added: “There’s an element of gift about it.

“There are… comedians like Peter Kay. As soon as he walks on, you laugh because he’s got funny bones. I’ve always had to win an audience over but that was to my advantage as well, so I could slowly draw people in.”
