Model and actress Elizabeth Hurley has exposed herself to mockery for claiming she hasn’t set her celebrity feet in a bar since 1987.
Elizabeth Hurley is being mocked for claiming she hasn’t set foot in a pub for nearly 40 years.
The plum-voiced model, 60, whose exes include booze-loving Hugh Grant, made the claim while adding she is clueless about the meaning of getting in a “round”.
She made the admission when being tested on points of etiquette by Rob Rinder, her co-star on new Channel 4 show The Inheritance. During a question and answer segment called Judgement call, Robert, 47, asked Liz: “Is this fair or not? Getting a more expensive drink when it’s somebody else’s round at the pub.”
Looking puzzled by the question, the brunette replied: “I don’t even know what that means! I haven’t been into a pub since 1987.”
After Liz and Robert laughed over her admission, he said: “I think we should move on.” She agreed: “Yes, I think that’s for the best.” But former lads mag pin-up Liz’s “confession” has made her a figure of ridicule.
Newspaper columnist Polly Vernon sneered about her claim: “Can that possibly be true? I mean, the ‘round in’ part, absolutely; Hurley’s a beauty, which would mitigate the need for her ever to buy her own drink, let alone someone else’s.
“Plus she’s a celebrity; the champagne has been running cold and free for her, for decades. The idea of paying for booze must seem perplexing. But the never going to the pub bit? Can that be true?
“Is it physically possible for an inhabitant of the UK (specifically, in Hurley’s case, of the pub-ridden Cotswolds) to never, in the course of nearly four decades, accidentally end up in one, from time to time?”
Liz and Rob are the faces of The Inheritance – billed as a 12-part, “camp, cut-throat and completely gripping” reality telly show.
It sees 13 strangers summoned to a grand stately home to compete for a chunk of a fortune left in the will of The Deceased.
Liz plays the benefactor, while Rob stars as the executor who is overseeing her estate.
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery actress was recently also ridiculed over her new oddball romance with 64-year-old country singer Billy Ray Cyrus.
She’s said their relationship “feels nice” as Miley Cyrus’ dad is so “supportive” – and revealed they enjoyed a relaxing summer together and adopted two tortoises.
