JoJo Siwa has opened up about her relationship with Chris Hughes and the difficulties they’ve faced since going public with their romance during her time on CBB
JoJo Siwa has opened up about her relationship with Chris Hughes, whom she met on Celebrity Big Brother just four months ago.
The 22-year-old singer and the 32-year-old presenter, who shot to fame on Love Island, crossed paths while Siwa was still dating non-binary Australian Kath Ebbs, 27. Despite the initial controversy, Siwa and Hughes’ bond has only grown stronger, although Siwa recently revealed they’ve hit a few bumps along the way.
After her stint on CBB ended, JoJo called it quits with Kath, and not long after, during a holiday in Mexico, she and Chris confessed their feelings for each other.
The Dance Moms star also addressed the public’s curiosity about her relationship with Hughes, confessing that she can see why some might think it’s too good to be true. Speaking frankly, she described their bond as “magic” and assured that, contrary to what some may think, their love story is genuine.
“It’s funny, a lot of people think that it’s fake. And I can see where people would go: ‘Ahh, it’s too good to be true. That’s too perfect.’ No, trust me, I agree with them. It is too perfect. It’s magic. But it’s real,” she told The Sun in an interview, reports the Mirror.
“So the best thing to do is just sit back and laugh, because it’s so obviously not fake. It’s not even worth fighting it. The remarks surface as JoJo’s former partner, Ebbs, issued a statement on social media whilst unveiling their new relationship. In what appeared to be a dig at JoJo, Kath posted: “Hope this one doesn’t cheat on me. ” JoJo subsequently responded to the comment, stating: “It’s interesting… It’s funny to see what people do for attention.
“Whilst JoJo makes it evident that harsh remarks about her sexuality and romance don’t personally wound her, she expresses concern about their effect on younger individuals who might be grappling with their own identities.”
What people say doesn’t affect me,” she explained, “But it does affect people who are younger than me and will go through something similar.
“You cannot control in this world who you love. My first love was a woman, and that was what it was. I didn’t try to stop that; why would I try to stop this?”
JoJo acknowledges that whilst the backlash hasn’t been straightforward, it’s had a surprising consequence on her romance with Chris – it’s brought them considerably closer, to the extent that she’s already contemplating their nuptials.
“We both come from a place where people talk so negatively about us, but we just let them. It’s not worth biting back. We have that in common. But it is tough,” she confessed.
“I love how my family loves him. It’s one of my favourite things. I’ve always wanted that.” Spilling the beans about their upcoming nuptials, she enthused: “A wedding is a two-person thing. So we would have to decide what it looks like. But I do know that I want it to have a baby-blue colour scheme and I need to help Chris make the playlist.
“Otherwise, it’ll be all songs I don’t know! He likes to educate me on music. He loves The 1975 and all these boy bands, but I don’t know any of them as they are British. Give me some NSYNC or Backstreet Boys!”.
