An actor who starred in The Goonies, a 1985 kids’ adventure film about a group of young children, looks totally different and recently received a “late” health diagnosis
A Goonies star has opened up about their life-altering diagnosis.
Martha Plimpton has been diagnosed with ADHD, which is attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and she described it as a liberating revelation. The star expressed that things have started to feel right now and that she is “not ashamed”.
“I’m actually a late diagnosis ADHD, like millions of others. It was actually a huge relief to be diagnosed,” Martha shared at the premiere of her HBO mini-series Task.
She continued: “So many little things fell into place and made sense that hadn’t made sense before. I’m glad to be sharing my ADHDness with the world,” reports the Mirror.
At the event for her upcoming TV project, Martha proudly sported a diamond necklace spelling out ‘ADHD’. Earlier this year, The Goonies celebrated its 40th anniversary.
Released in 1985, the beloved film introduced audiences to a group of adventurous kids known as the Goonies, who set off on a thrilling journey to discover the legendary pirate treasure of One-Eyed Willy.
Martha played Stef, Andy’s sharp-tongued best friend in the beloved 80s film. She starred alongside Andy, portrayed by actress Kerri Green. Following The Goonies, Kerri went on to appear in movies such as Lucas in 1986 and Three for the Road in 1987.
She had a brief romance with actor River Phoenix and maintained their friendship until his untimely passing in 1993. Martha discussed his drug problems and previously revealed: “When we split up, a lot of it was that I had learned that screaming, fighting, and begging wasn’t going to change him. He had to change himself and he didn’t want to yet.”
Martha has emerged as a passionate campaigner for reproductive rights and co-established the organisation A Is For. She remains active in acting and divides her time between Brooklyn, London, and Los Angeles.
