It’s now confirmed that Ed Sheeran and his family are packing up and heading across the pond to America.

During a chat on the 2 Johnnies podcast, the 34-year-old musician disclosed that he’s departing Suffolk alongside wife Cherry Seaborn and their daughters, Lyra and Jupiter.

The clan had been residing in a lavish £3.7 million property, affectionately known as Sheeranville, which boasts a gymnasium, swimming pool, treehouse, and even its own separate bungalow in the Suffolk countryside – the very place where the singer-songwriter penned numerous chart-toppers. Yet the quartet are preparing to depart for the States imminently.

“I’m just about to move to America,” Ed disclosed during the podcast appearance. “I feel like i might be the only person moving to America. I’m going on tour there for a while and I have a family so I can’t dip in and out. We’re going and settling there.”

The upcoming tour accompanies the launch of his newest record, Play, with merely two British shows scheduled – Coventry on 5 December and Manchester on 7 December. Play is set for release on 12 September, reports the Mirror.

Whilst America presents numerous opportunities, there’s one thing the hit-making artist will deeply miss – his cherished Ipswich Town Football Club. Ed holds a 1.4% ownership stake and recently served as their shirt sponsor.

“I went to almost every game last season,” he revealed. “I think I can only make one this season because I’m moving to the States.”

Ed has previously voiced his ambition to make the move across the pond.

While he hasn’t pinpointed exactly where in the vast nation he’s planning to settle, he’s hinted at Nashville as his preferred destination. Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, he revealed: “Nashville is my favourite city in the States and it’s always been my end goal to move to Nashville and transition to country.”

Suffolk has been a breeding ground for talent, boasting Oscar-nominated thespian Ralph Fiennes and beloved EastEnders legend June Brown amongst its famous offspring. Yet it’s Ed Sheeran who’s truly thrust the county into the spotlight with his heartfelt devotion to his homeland.

His track Castle on a Hill has been hailed as a heartfelt tribute to the county where both he and his missus spent their formative years.

The singer first crossed paths with his future bride during their school days, with Ed being a year her senior. After losing contact, fate intervened in 2015 when they bumped into each other in New York through a mutual mate’s suggestion.

They tied the knot in an intimate ceremony three years down the line and became parents for the first time in 2020. Baby number two arrived in 2022.

During a chat on The Ellen DeGeneres Show between welcoming his little ones, he confessed: “I really didn’t have a purpose outside of [music] because when I was giving myself fixed time of no work, I wasn’t doing anything I enjoyed because I love doing music.

“And [being a dad] has actually given me purpose and something in life that’s actually more important than my job.”
