Deadwater Fell wrapped tonight, and it climaxed with an explosive ending.
It transpired that Tom (David Tennant) did kill his wife and children to stop them from leaving him, so he drugged his wife, before setting fire to their family home.
Viewers commended Tennant for his portrayal of the psychotic killer.
Taking to Twitter, one fan enthused: “Tom killed his wife and kids what a psychopath. How phenomenal is David Tennant?
While another continued: “David Tennant plays a fantastic crazed lunatic.”
A third added: “Sick. Evil. Twisted Monster. Oh my god, David Tennant played Tom so brilliantly – fantastic series.”
Despite fans heaping praise on Tennant’s incredible acting abilities, some viewers did feel a bit let down that there wasn’t more of a twist at the end, as Tennant’s character Tom appeared to be the killer from the offset.
Sharing their thoughts on Twitter, one social networker said: “So, the twist is, there was no twist.”
Another remarked: “Well that was an anti-climax if I ever did see one.”
A third said: “Damn, thought there was going to be a massive twist to this.”
Fans had previously predicted that policeman Steve could be the evil killer.

They thought that it could be Steve, who attempted to save the family from the fire, because he learned Tom was having an affair with wife Jess.
Taking to Twitter, one viewer wrote: “Steve knew about the affair, started the fire, thinking Kate and kids were camping in the garden, (pine needles!), leaving Tom inside. But! They had come back in as scared in tent. Padlock was to stop kids sleepwalking. Burglar was Steve sneaking back in! Ta da!”

Another replied: “Yeah but I wonder if he was out and when he came back in, the kid woke up heard the ‘burglar’ but Steve managed to get back to bed quick!”
A third theorised: “Maybe Steve already knew she had cheated and wasn’t expecting her to confess? Killed his mate’s wife and kids as revenge? Tried to make it look like he was trying to save them on the night of the fire?”
