Rihanna's Savage X Fenty firm accused of adding 'sneaky' extra charges to orders

Singer Rihanna’s undies firm has been accused of adding “sneaky” extra charges to orders.

The star’s Savage X Fenty website offers “Rihanna-designed lingerie”.

But anyone buying skimpies off the website is automatically charged a £49.95-a-month VIP membership, which gives discounts.

The “Monthly Membership” item can be removed from the basket by clicking a tiny “x”. But many shoppers do not notice, or wrongly believe it is a complimentary gift.

The website T&Cs state customers have the option to skip paying the £49.95 direct debit.

Small print on the site does warn of this charge, but some customers have complained the warning is not clear enough.

Richard Fenton of website doesntgrowontrees.co.uk said: “Unfortunately this tactic is all too familiar. Brands like Rihanna’s are relying on fans to sneak in ‘deals’.

“In my view, it is an abuse of fans and their desire to be associated with people they trust.

“The use of celebrity to push in sneaky expensive monthly memberships needs tighter regulation.”

Rihanna, 31, is said to be worth over £460million after the successful launch of her fashion and makeup empire.

The star launched her Savage X Fenty lingerie collection in 2018, which features an array of racy negligees.

But before that, her first business venture was her Fenty Beauty makeup line.
