David Walliams urged to apologise for Caroline Flack joke after her tragic death

Caroline Flack’s fans want Britain’s Got Talent judge David Walliams to apologise after he made a joke about her at the National Television Awards.

David, 48, joked about former Love Island host Caroline at the awards ceremony before the 40 year old TV presenter tragically died.

The media personality joked at the NTAs, comparing Caroline to the Hedgehog from The Masked Singer.

When the character appeared onstage, David said: ‘It’s so nice to see Caroline Flack back on TV.’ His remark was met with boos from the audience.

After the news was broken about Caroline’s passing, thousands of fans have flooded Twitter urging David to apologise for his joke.

One said: “Why did a member of the BGT panel deem it acceptable to make jokes at her expense? Apologise David Walliams.”

While another wrote: “David Walliams needs to issue a public apology about his NTA swipe at Caroline Flack.”

“I really do hope David Walliams issues a sincere apology regarding his NTA lamp joke in light of this evenings heart breaking news” added third.

Others rushed to defend David, saying that “hounding” him wasn’t helpful.

One wrote: “The internet trolls who hounded Caroline Flack to death have now headed over to David Walliams to blame and hound him.”

While another said: “The irony of everyone publicly shaming David Walliams now because he made an innocent joke about Caroline Flack. He’s probably feeling awful about it.

“What are you going to say if he turns up dead in a couple of weeks because of it? Hypocrites.”

Caroline was found dead at her London home after taking her own life.

Her family confirmed the tragic news on Saturday.

As news of her death broke, devastated friends and celebrities posted tear-jerking tributes to the media personality.

Laura Whitmore posted a tribute to the star showing a photo of the pair hugging and a verse about losing “someone special”.

She added: “I’m trying to find the words but I can’t” with a broken heart emoji.

The Masked Singer star Davina McCall tweeted: “I’m so so sad to hear about @carolineflack1.

“I don’t even know what to say. But my heart goes out to her friends and family x I might be a bit quiet tonight on social media .. just doesn’t seem right .”
