Caroline Flack's sister Jody had heartbreaking task of identifying star, inquest hears

Caroline Flack’s twin sister Jody Flack identified the star’s body after the former Love Island presenter took her own life by hanging.

An inquest into Caroline’s death was opened at Poplar Coroners’ Court, London, this morning following the 40-year-old’s untimely death on February 15.

Coroner’s officer Sandra Polson said Ms Flack was “found lying on her back, she had apparently been found hanging,” and sibling Jody found her body.

Police attempted resuscitation, which was then continued by paramedics, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the inquest, the court heard police were flagged down in the street and arrived to find the TV star lying on her back.

The court adjourned the full hearing until August 5.

Caroline took her own life 18 days before she was due to stand trial for assault.

The TV host was involved in an alleged altercation with boyfriend Lewis Burton at her Islington home in December. Police were called to the premises over a “domestic disturbance” and later arrested and charged the star with assault by beating.

During her court hearing at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court on December 23, she pleaded not guilty to the assault charges and was released on bail, with the conditions of having no contact with Burton prior to her March trial.

News of her inquest comes days after her management slammed the CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) for pursuing a case against the “vulnerable” TV star despite Burton not wishing to press charges.

Broadcast and talent agent Louisa McDonald released a statement, which read: “We are devastated at the loss of our client and friend Caroline Flack.

An immensely talented young woman who was at the top of her game professionally and loved by television viewers across the country. In recent months Caroline had been under huge pressure because of an ongoing case and potential trial which has been well reported.

“The Crown Prosecution Service pursued this when they knew not only how very vulnerable Caroline was but also that the alleged victim did not support the prosecution and had disputed the CPS version of events.

“The CPS should look at themselves today and how they pursued a show trial that was not only without merit but not in the public interest.

“And ultimately resulted in significant distress to Caroline. Our thoughts are with Caroline’s family at this time.”
