How did Cilla Black die?

Cilla was found unconscious and slumped on a terrace outside her bedroom at her villa in Estepona on August 1, 2015.

Her son Robert called the emergency services, but the 72-year-old was pronounced dead just 40 minutes after she was found.

An inquest into the Liverpool-native’s death found Cilla had hit her head as she fell, and had suffered a fatal injury.

The singer had lost her balance after standing up on the terrace of her Spanish holiday home.

After being knocked unconscious the autopsy found she had died from a stroke.

More specifically, Cilla died from a subarachnoid haemorrhage, which is a form of stroke caused by a bleeding on the brain.

She was believed to have fallen between 12.30pm and 2.30pm, and was discovered by her son at around 5.30pm.

An official family statement at the time said: “It has just been confirmed by the judge and coroner in Spain the autopsy was conclusive – Cilla Black died from natural causes.

“Cilla was sunbathing on her private terrace at her villa in Estepona, got up, lost her balance and fell hitting her head, which knocked her unconscious, and she subsequently died of a stroke. She would not have suffered.”
