EastEnders fans gobsmacked at how 'posh' Cora Cross actress is in real life

EastEnders fans were stunned to see former EastEnders actress Ann Mitchell was on today’s Lorraine, with some gobsmacked at how different her accent was in real life.

Ann, 80, played the fiery character Cora Cross on the beloved soap, but she’s not been on the programme since 2018.

Fans flocked to Twitter, thrilled to see her back on their television screens.

One said: “Shows you just what a great actress Ann Mitchell is. Comes across as a lovely person, while some of those characters she’s portrayed over the years have scared the s*** out of me,”

While another wrote: “Love how Cora from Eastenders is Posh in real life! Love the accent.”

“Oh she was in EastEnders!” said a third.

Ann joined Christine Lampard on today’s Lorraine to discuss the final ever series of Call The Midwife.

She joined the beloved tv drama back in 2019 as Elsie Dyer, and is set to return for the hotly anticipated next season.

She’s best known for playing Cora Cross on EastEnders, with the star growing plenty of fans from being on the popular soap.

Her character is mother to Tanya Branning and Rainie Cross and the grandmother of Lauren and Abi Branning.

She was last seen on the soap in November 2018, when she was trying ti fight for custody of her great-granddaughter Abi.

Cora believed that baby Abi was better off coming to live with her, as she blamed Max for the death of original Abi so didn’t think the baby would be safe.

The character tried to bribe Rainie into ditching Max and helping her and Tanya get custody of Abi.

In brutal scenes she then attacked her own daughter Rainie with a frying pan, knocking her unconscious to the floor.

Lorraine continues on Monday at 9am on ITV, with EastEnders airing tonight at 8.30pm on BBC1
