'The Amazing Race' Halts Production of Season 33 Due to Coronavirus Concerns

The CBS global unscripted competition series is marks the latest production to be affected by the respiratory virus as many musicians canceling their upcoming concerts.

AceShowbiz – “The Amazing Race” has been affected by the coronavirus outbreak. In a statement on Friday, February 28, the production of the CBS show announced that it has taken “the precautionary measure of temporarily suspending production” on the upcoming season 33 due to “increased concerns and uncertainty regarding the coronavirus.”

“All contestants and production staff are in the process of returning home,” a CBS spokesman said in a statement. “At this time, no Racers or anyone on the production team travelling with them have contracted the virus, or shown symptoms, and we are not aware of anyone being exposed to it.”

The statement continued, “Out of an abundance of caution, everyone involved in the show will continue to be monitored when they return home. The health and well-being of the Racers and the production team are our top priorities.”

Although it has yet to be announced, season 33 of the global unscripted competition series is reportedly only a couple of weeks into production. According to Variety, they had filmed three episodes so far as the contestants headed to England and Scotland before the suspension of the production.

CBS hasn’t set a new production start date for season 33. Meanwhile, the production has completedly filmed season 32 though they haven’t announced the premiere date.

“The Amazing Race” marks the latest production to be affected by the respiratory virus which was first found in Wuhan, China. Disney’s “Mulan” and newest James Bond flick “No Time to Die” decided to cancel their premieres in China. Italian releases of several upcoming films may also be postponed in reaction to the spread of coronavirus with some musicians, including BTS (Bangtan Boys) and Green Day, canceling their upcoming concerts in several countries.
