John Barrowman confirmed to join Holby City cast in menacing newcomer twist

Holby City is getting a serious shake-up this season, as John Barrowman joins the show as Drew Nicholson-Heath.

The 52-year-old star will play consultant Drew for one episode only, clashing heads with Ange Godard (Dawn Steele).

Yesterday saw the release of the new spring trailer for the BBC One medical drama, featuring the charismatic Dancing on Ice judge.

In the clip, Drew’s history with Ange remains a mystery, as the two bump into each other outside the hospital.

When Ange wonders what business Drew has in Holby, he replies: “Slumming it, I guess.”

Global recruiter Drew is visiting Holby with the intention of poaching the hospital’s leading doctors – which means the team try their best to impress him.

Will he tear some of the show’s leading staff members away from Holby?

Speaking out about the role, I’m A Celeb star John admitted he was chuffed to go down in Holby history.

He said: “Being part of another iconic BBC drama is just fabulous.

“I was welcomed with open arms by the cast and crew and felt like part of the Holby City family right away. My character Drew brings a new flavour to the show and I look forward to his return soon. Surgery will never be the same again.”

John’s arrival isn’t the only bombshell twist on Holby this season – the show will see the return of Holby legend Guy Self.

Played by John Michie, the consultant neurosurgeon hasn’t been seen on the show since November 2018.

On top of that, the shocking trailer revealed Essie (Kaye Wragg) and Fletch (Alex Walkinshaw) will receive heartbreaking cancer diagnoses.
