Coachella and Stagecoach music festival cancelled amid Coronavirus outbreak

Bosses have confirmed that Coachella will now be rescheduled and go ahead in October amid the Coronavirus outbreak.

Artists such as Lewis Capaldi , Charli XCX and Calvin Harris were due to headline the first weekend of the Californian bash which kicks off on April 10th, with round two the following week.

It had been speculated that the iconic Coachella Valley Music Festival would be cancelled after three more people in the valley tested positive for the deadly COVID-19 virus.

Headliners Rage Against The Machine, Travis Scott and Lana del Rey were also set to the famous stage.

The festival which was set to be held next month is will now kick off on October 9th and October 16th, with the same famous lineup performing.

Confirming the news to Daily Star Online, a Coachella spokesperson said: “At the direction of the County of Riverside and local health authorities, we must sadly confirm the rescheduling of Coachella and Stagecoach due to COVID-19 concerns.

“While this decision comes at a time of universal uncertainty, we take the safety and health of our guests, staff and community very seriously. We urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials.”

They added: “Coachella will now take place on October 9, 10 and 11 and October 16, 17 and 18, 2020.

“Stagecoach will take place on October 23, 24 and 25, 2020. All purchases for the April dates will be honoured for the rescheduled October dates. Purchasers will be notified by Friday, March 13 on how to obtain a refund if they are unable to attend.”

Crowds at the Californian festival can often reach 100,000 with celebrities such as Kim Kardashian-West, Brooklyn Beckham, Kylie Jenner and Paris Jackson dress in their best festival outfits for the celebrations.

The deadly virus is sending shockwaves across the globe, with artists such as BTS cancelling tours amid fears.

It was also announced yesterday that Miley Cyrus would not be performing in Melbourne this coming Friday for an Australian Bushfire benefit gig after being warned by officials not to travel.

The Riverside County Health Department confirmed their first coronavirus case just days ago, with the number set to rise in coming weeks.

It’s believed that in the United States, there are over 500 cases of the virus with 22 being fatal – as reported by The New York Times.
