Coronavirus: Stereophonics branded 'irresponsible' for not cancelling busy gig

Former Dancing on Ice star Caprice Bourret has been slammed after she argued with a qualified doctor on national TV that she knows better than the expert on how to stop the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

The 48-year-old was savagely mocked after she appeared on The Jeremy Vine Show alongside Dr Sarah Jarvis, a GP and clinical director of the health information service Patient.

Caprice, who is a mum-of-two, argued with Dr Jarvis that she knows better than the experts on how to stop the virus spreading because she’d read about how other countries are treating the outbreak.

She went on to argue that she knows better than even medical experts Chris Whitty and Patrick Vallance, who have been advising the government on how to cope with the virus.

During the heated discussion, Caprice argued she knew as much about the virus as the experts because she read them in a newspaper report.

Host Jeremy stayed out of the argument and watched from the sidelines as the two women raised their voices at one another in the heated segment.

Dr Jarvis snapped: “No disrespect, unless you have read every scientific paper and statistical modelling paper that’s come out, you cannot argue with me on that.

“You can have an opinion but it’s not a fact.”

Interrupting her, Caprice snapped back: “But I can, I have an opinion.”

She then went on to glance down at a newspaper on her desk, she continued: “This is what I’ve read – let me tell you the facts.

“In Taiwan and Singapore, what they did they early on – in week one, in February, everyone was wearing surgical masks-“

Dr Jarvis sharply cut in: “Which make no difference at all.”

A wounded looking Caprice replied: “Sorry, I let you so let me finish…,” before continuing to read out extracts from the article.

Viewers were left fuming, one tweeted: “I just wonder whether Caprice realises how foolish she sounds.”

A second said: “It is irresponsible to give people like Caprice such airtime to spout her expertise which is a big fat zero.”

Another tweeted: “Worrying that Caprice, as wonderful as she is, is allowed to comment on this and be taken seriously.”

Jeremy Vine continues tomorrow at 9.15am on Channel 5.
