Vanessa Hudgens slammed for 'lacking empathy' as star makes light of coronavirus

Vanessa Hudgens has been slammed on social media after she seemed to make light of the fact thousands have been killed by the deadly coronavirus.

Speaking about the virus in an Instagram live video, Vanessa who shot to fame in High School Musical looked somewhat disgruntled as she claimed that it’s inevitable that people will die.

It’s believed that around 8000 people have now died across the world since the COVID-19 virus outbreak.

Vanessa, 31, was slammed for “lacking empathy” as she appeared to alter her voice making light of the situation.

In a clip from her Instagram live session which has since been reposted on Twitter, the actress took part in a question and answer session with her millions of followers.

Speaking about the outbreak, Vanessa said: “Um yeah ’til July sounds like a bunch of bulls**t, I’m sorry, but like it’s a virus, I get it, I respect it, but at the same time, like even if everybody gets it, like yeah people are gonna die, which is terrible but like inevitable.”

The actress went on to say: “I don’t know, maybe I shouldn’t be doing this right now.”

Taking to Twitter, US journalist Yashar Ali shared the clip alongside the caption: “What a horrible and heartless message for you to share with the younger people who look up to you @VanessaHudgens”.

Since the clip went viral, Vanessa has taken to Twitter to apologise for what she said.

In a lengthy statement, Zac Efron’s former co-star said: “I’m so sorry for the way I have offended anyone and everyone who has seen the clip from my Instagram live yesterday.

“I realise my words were insensitive and not at all appropriate for the situation our country and the world are in right now.

“This has been a huge wake-up call about the significance my words have, now more than ever. I’m sending safe wishes to everyone to stay safe and healthy during this crazy time.”

Followers instantly flocked to the replies section with one saying: “Nice try, but you are still the worst and are incredibly lacking in empathy.”

While a second added: “This is hard for people who are dying (obviously). But it is also hard for the families, doctors, and nurses who are having to make these tough decisions.”

A third fan went on to say: “As someone who has supported some of your work, it’s deeply disappointing.”
