Hours before the 2009 MTV Music Video Awards, nobody would have believed how the night would pan out with rap legend Kanye West and Taylor Swift becoming arch enemies.
Seven years later, Kanye released that track, Famous, which sent sparks flying with Kanye claiming Taylor give permission to be called a “b***h” and also claiming that he is responsible for her global domination.

This all started when Taylor was awarded the Best Female Video for her hit single You Belong With Me in 2009 at the awards ceremony.
While Taylor was on stage with her award, West opted to join the celebration, climbing the stairs in order to interrupt Taylor’s victory speech.
After grabbing her microphone, Kanye exclaimed: “Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’ma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time!”
Speaking to reporters after the event, Taylor spoke of how disheartened she was.

She said: “I was standing on stage and I was really excited because I’d just won the award and then I was really excited because Kanye West was on stage.
“And then I wasn’t excited anymore after that.”
Weeks later while appearing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Kanye said that he knew he was in the wrong.

“I immediately knew in the situation that it was wrong and it was a spectacle.”
He went on to apologise to Taylor while appearing on the Ellen DeGeneres Show claiming that “sincerity and alcohol” were to blame for his actions.
“It’s actually someone’s emotions that I stepped on. It was very, it was rude, period. I’d like to be able to apologise to her in person.”

Swift opened up about the apology she received from Kanye saying: “Kanye did call me and he was very sincere in his apology, and I accepted that apology.
“The support I got from other artists and from the fans, and so many people sticking up for me, that’s what got me to the place where I could accept that apology.
“And I’m just very thankful that everyone showed me so much, love.”

Despite their feud appearing to have been put to bed, Taylor went on to perform her track Innocent at the 2010 VMAs, believed to be about Kanye.
This soon led to him retracting his apology.
Speaking to the New York Times, he said: “I don’t have one regret. If anyone’s reading this waiting for some type of full-on, flat apology for anything, they should just stop reading right now.
“I have, as a human being, fallen to peer pressure.”
