Severance fans are known for spotting clues and creating crazy theories about the show’s characters, and the latest speculation has fallen on two beloved characters Irving and Milchick14:00, 30 Mar 2025Severance season 3 trailer on Apple TVSeverance’s Irving B. may not be who you think he is.The beloved character of the smash hit Apple TV series is a fan favourite due to his kind nature and fierce loyalty. However, Severance fans have pieced together a few clues that may point to him being someone totally different on the outside – and even to him being severed multiple times.Article continues belowOver on Reddit, omgshannonwtf issued a truly wild theory with lots of evidence to support their claims. They titled the post: “Irving had Mr Milchick’s job before he was severed. CHANGE MY MIND.””I’ve come across a lot of things which don’t add up unless the answer is Irving was previously a manager,” they wrote before explaining that his iconic painting, which shows a long black corridor with an elevator at the end, is a “painting from Milchick’s point of view”.Severance fans seem to think Irving has been through multiple severed chipsFans “know that Irving has worked at Lumon for nine years but has only been severed for three” and that the artwork is painted from Milchick’s position, which is another word for job, which could hint: “Irving and Milchick have held the same position.”In previous episodes, Petey also expresses concern to Mark that he doesn’t want to talk about sensitive Lumon matters because he is unsure if the monitors are bugged, or….if Irving is going to walk in on them.Milchick often walks in on the refiners working or talking to each other, so the Reddit user explains this as more evidence to support their argument. Irving also doesn’t get Petey’s job, which could raise suspicions as “he is the most senior refiner, knows all the rules and respects protocol” – maybe the role went to Mr Milkshake instead, leading to another severance procedure on Irving.Milchick and Irving may have been up for the same role after Petey left LumonSeverance fans flocked to praise the mind-boggling theory and countless responses flooded in. Many fans of the show agreed with omgshannonwtf’s claims and one person wrote: “Now you’re cooking, this makes great sense. Excellent post.”Another said: “Honestly, the second I read the title I thought: ‘Yeah, this makes a lot of sense.’ Your points support the theory nicely, especially the hallway POV.””Instant agreement,” simply stated another Apple TV streamer, while someone else chimed in: “Nope, I’ve been on this theory since the [series one] finale. 1000% agree.”Series three ended with more questions than answersElsewhere on Reddit, others agree that Irving has been severed many times, with a common theory being that the character has been wiped “three times”.”Not sure about the amount of times but I absolutely think he’s been wiped and re-loaded at least a few times,” as another person explained the claims. They noted that Irving’s Outie “has a subconscious memory of the black hallway” while his Innie has no recollection of the place.Article continues belowJoin the Daily Star’s WhatsApp for the sexiest headlines, showbiz gossip and lots moreThe Daily Star is now on WhatsApp and we want you to join us!Through the app, we’ll send you the sassiest showbiz stories, some naught headline and a seismic smattering of aliens…along with the latest breaking news of course. To join our community, all you have to do to join isclick on this link, select ‘Join Chat’ and you’re in!No one will be able to see who has sign up and no one can send messages except for the Daily Star team.
