Taylor Swift Calls 'Red' Her 'Only True Breakup Album'

    Instagram

While many of her songs are rumored to be about her exes, the ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ singer insists her 2012 album was her ‘only true breakup album.’

    Oct 30, 2020
AceShowbiz – Taylor Swift only has one “true breakup album” – 2012’s “Red”.
Since her 2006 debut album, Swift has built a reputation for penning songs directed at her famous exes, which include Harry Styles and Calvin Harris, but she insists not all of her albums are centred on heartbreak.
In a trailer for Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums podcast, she opens up on “Red”, which comes in at number 99, and calls the record, “My only true breakup album.”
“Every other album has flickers of different things,” she says. “This was an album that I wrote specifically about a pure, absolute, to-the-core heartbreak.”

“Red” features several massive hits, including lead single “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” and her massive hit “I Knew You Were Trouble”.
Fans have speculated that the album is inspired by Swift’s split with actor Jake Gyllenhaal, with the track “All Too Well” referencing “a little kid with glasses” as well as a sister – believed to be his actor sibling Maggie Gyllenhaal. Taylor has never confirmed the rumours.
Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums will be available exclusively on Amazon Music and will begin streaming weekly episodes on 10 November.
Taylor Swift once explained why she used the word “Red” for the title, “All the different emotions that are written about on this album are all pretty much about the kind of tumultuous, crazy, insane, intense, semi-toxic relationships that I’ve experienced in the last two years. All those emotions – spanning from intense love, intense frustration, jealousy, confusion, all of that – in my mind, all those emotions are red. You know, there’s nothing in between. There’s nothing beige about any of those feelings.”

Neil Young's Brother Calls Transformation Into Songwriter With 'Hey America' an 'Organic Event'

    WENN/FayesVision

Former golf professional Bob Young wrote his first song at the age of 78 after being so fired up from watching Donald Trump on TV, and recorded it with a band he named The Peterboroughs.

    Oct 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Neil Young’s brother has written and recorded his first song at the age of 78.
Former golf professional Bob Young is so fired up about the upcoming U.S. general election, he decided to write a song about his feelings, “Hey America”, and he’s so pleased with it he has recorded it with a band he has named The Peterboroughs, which features his famous brother on harmonica.
“I didn’t set out to become a songwriter and singer at 78 years of age,” Bob said in a statement. “It was and is an organic event. I was watching Donald Trump on TV a couple of years ago and wrote down a few lines. When I got home, I found I could play those lines on guitar. Gradually, it became what it is now. It took a while to be able to play and sing the song from start to finish. When I could finally accomplish that, it was a victory.”

“The recording process all happened at once. I had never done that either. It was a band performance that had spontaneity. In another session, some vocal harmony was added, and Neil played harmonica. My perspective is simultaneously that of a participant and spectator. I am watching myself do this.”

The recording prompted brother Neil to do something he has never done – direct the video with the help of his wife, actress Daryl Hannah.
“The filming of Hey America was done in the COVID-19 environment,” Neil tells Rolling Stone. “One shot where we’re all standing together, singing without masks was done in three separate shoots with the same background and assembled in post-production to look like three people singing together.”

“Flewed Out” is included on City Girls’ latest album “City on Lock” that hit the stores on June 20 following its leak a day prior. Talking about the leak in an interview with Variety, JT admitted she was in panic mode because of that. “It was something I’ve never felt before. It was a feeling like, ‘My career’s over.’ I was real sad that day,” she said. “I was talking on the phone to different artists who’ve been in it a little longer than us, and they were like, ‘It happens — it doesn’t mean it’s the end.’ ”
Due to the leak, they were forced to release the album as soon as possible. “But everybody at the label and everybody who works around us were saying that it was a perfect time: We were gone so long, we’ve got to get the people back in tune with us,” JT explained. “We were supposed to drop the docuseries first, then we’re going to cover the single. But it all got ruined when someone leaked [the album], we had to put it out the same day.”

  • Megan Thee Stallion's Artist of the Year Win at BET Hip Hop Awards Sparks Complaints

    Instagram

Most people believe that Lil Baby deserves the award more than the Texas native, with some even claiming that BET gave the trophy to Megan out of sympathy.

    Oct 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Megan Thee Stallion came out as the biggest winner at the 2020 BET Hip-Hop Awards during its ceremony last night, taking home the biggest honor Artist of the Year. However, people on social media believed that the trophy should go to someone else instead of the Texas native, and some were not being nice at all by saying that she won out of sympathy.
Most of them pointed out that Lil Baby deserves the award more since according to them, he made more achievements than Megan. “14 songs went gold this year without him being featured, 10 songs went platinum without him being featured, 2 albums went platinum (one went twice), 2 albums went gold,” one person listed Baby’s accomplishment, adding, “megan: 2 songs went platinum without her being featured. 1 song went gold without her being featured.”

Meanwhile, some others were convinced that BET gave the honor to Megan out of sympathy after the whole shooting scandal involving her and Tory Lanez. “You mean to tell me Megan had a better year then Lil Baby, You mean to tell me ‘SugAh’ was a better album then My Turn, … you telling me this has nothing to do with her getting shot,” someone said. “Just cause Megan got shot in the foot doesn’t mean she beat Lil Baby for artist of the year,” one other similarly wrote, as another agreed, “I don’t listen to either of them but she clearly got it because she got shot. Let’s be honest.”
Besides the Artist of the Year award, Megan was also presented with Hustler of the Year and Best Collaboration for her hit “Savage” remix featuring Beyonce Knowles. Meanwhile, the singing diva nabbed Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse for her part on the song.

  • Jimmy Fallon Freaks Out Over Dolly Parton Duet of Mariah Carey's Christmas Song Cover

    WENN/Dave Starbuck

Invited to work with the country music legend for her first festive album in 30 years, the late night talk show host thought he would have to sing along to ‘All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth’.

    Oct 28, 2020
AceShowbiz – Comedian Jimmy Fallon was sweating recording a cover of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” with Dolly Parton, because a mix-up left him memorising the lyrics for a completely different holiday tune.
The late night talk show host was invited to work with the country music legend for her first festive album in 30 years, “A Holly Dolly Christmas”, but Fallon initially thought Parton wanted him to sing along to the novelty tune “All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth” – instead of the Carey classic.
“Dolly Parton’s people called me and they said, ‘Would you like to do a duet with Dolly Parton?'” he recalled on U.S. breakfast show “Today”. “I go, ‘Of course..!'”
“They wanna do All I Want for Christmas. I go, ‘I got that! ‘All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth, my two front teeth…'”
However, Fallon soon learned that wasn’t the tune Parton had in mind – and then panicked as he realised he would never be able to hit the high notes for the iconic 1994 holiday hit.
“Two weeks before we record it, I got the words; it’s ‘All I want for Christmas Is You’ – the Mariah Carey song,” he shared.

      See also…

“I go, ‘Oh no, we have a big problem. I can’t sing this! It’s Mariah Carey, no one can sing that song, it’s not even a duet!'”
“They go, ‘Well, let’s try it, we think we can make it work.’ I was sweating in the (recording) booth… Veins were coming out of my head trying to hit notes…”

Despite his concerns, Fallon admits the finished product isn’t bad at all: “It’s crazy. They have a great producer, it turned out awesome.”
Fallon is still in disbelief at sharing the recording booth with Parton, and now he hints they are preparing to perform the tune live for the first time at the New York City Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony this December.
“We’re doing something for the Christmas Tree Lighting, me and Dolly,” he teased.
Fallon isn’t the only celebrity to join Parton for a song on “A Holly Dolly Christmas” – she also recruited Willie Nelson, Michael Buble, and goddaughter Miley Cyrus for the project.

  • Watch Justin Bieber and Benny Blanco Perform Stripped-Down Version of 'Lonely'

Directed by Jake Schreier, who also helmed the original music video, the visuals finds the Canadian superstar and his collaborator performing the tune in a recording studio.

    Oct 28, 2020
AceShowbiz – Days after premiering their collaboration “Lonely”, Justin Bieber and Benny Blanco have now treated their fans to a stripped-down version of the song through a video posted on Tuesday, October 27. Directed by Jake Schreier, who also helmed the original music video, the visuals finds the collaborators performing the tune in a recording studio.
Benny plays on the electric piano as the Canadian superstar gets candid about his struggles with fame since he was a preteen. “Everybody knows my past now/ Like my house was always made of glass/ And maybe that’s the price you pay/ For the money and fame at an early age,” he sings. “And everybody saw me sick/ And it felt like no one gave a s**t/ They criticized the things I did as an idiot kid.”

      See also…

“Lonely” marks Justin and Benny’s fifth collaboration and will be included on his upcoming sixth album that still doesn’t have a release date and a title. Justin said of the song, “When he [Blanco] and [Finneas] showed me this song to be honest it was hard to listen to considering how tough it was to get through some of these chapters. I went into the studio and sang through it which wasn’t easy but started to really see the importance of telling this story! It made me realize we all feel lonely at times! Being someone in my position I believe it is powerful to express vulnerability and that’s why I believe this song is so powerful!”
In the original music video for the song, which was unveiled at the same time as the song’s release, Canadian actor Jacob Tremblay played a younger version of Justin. In an interview, the teen star admitted it was such an experience that he “would have never seen coming.”

  • Singer Rina Sawayama Makes U.S. TV Debut With 'XS' Performance

    NBC

The Japanese-born British singer is accompanied with a slew of dancers when she takes the stage in the latest episode of ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’.

    Oct 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Rina Sawayama has been attracting a lot of attention lately with her music. It has even gotten to the point where the Japanese-born British singer is invited to perform on U.S. TV shows for the first time, as she made her debut performance in the Monday, October 26 episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”.
For her first TV performance in the United States, Rina belted out one of the singles off her self-titled debut album, “XS”. Clad in a red tight top paired with gold neck pieces, she was accompanied with a slew of dancers while criticising capitalism through the pop and rock soundscape.

Like mentioned above, “XS” is included on Rina’s debut album “Sawayama”. In a statement, she described the tune as a song that “mocks capitalism in a sinking world.” She then added, “Given that we all know global climate change is accelerating and human extinction is a very real possibility within our lifetime it seemed hilarious to me that brands were still coming out with new makeup palettes every month and public figures were doing a gigantic house tour of their gated property in Calabasas in the same week as doing a ‘sad about Australian wild fires’ Instagram post.”
“I mean I’m guilty of turning a blind eye too, because otherwise it makes me depressed. We’re all hypocrites because we are all capitalists, and it’s a trap that I don’t see us getting out of,” she went on saying. “I wanted to reflect the chaos of this post-truth climate change denying world in the metal guitar stabs that flare up like an underlying zit between the 2000s R&B beat that reminds you of a time when everything was alright.”
Besides “XS”, her album also features songs such as “STFU!” and “Comme des Garçons (Like the Boys)”. It received generally positive reviews from music critics and peaked at No. 6 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums chart.
