  • Joni Mitchell Officially Debuts First-Ever Original Song 'Day After Day'

    WENN/Marcus Hoffman

The music icon officially releases her ‘firstborn’ song as a single from her upcoming collection ‘The Early Years’ that’s filled with previously-unreleased material.
    Oct 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – Joni Mitchell has shared her “firstborn” original song “Day After Day” as the latest single from her upcoming collection “Joni Mitchell Archives Vol. 1: The Early Years (1963-1967)”.
The folk singer has announced the release of the new collection on 30 October (20), with subsequent albums of rarities planned to be unveiled over the next few years.
The “Early Years” will feature nearly six hours of previously unreleased material, including the “Both Sides, Now” hitmakers earliest performance at the age of 19.
“Day After Day” was recorded on 24 August, 1965 for Jac Holzman, co-founder of Elektra records. It opens with Mitchell on acoustic guitar as she sings the first verse, “Day after day / Miles and miles of railroad track / Night after night / Hummin’ of the wheels.”

“It was my firstborn,” she says of the track. “I didn’t know whether it was a good song or a bad song. It was just the first one that came out.”
The release follows “House of the Rising Sun”, her earliest-known recording from 1963, with the album featuring another six hours of previously unreleased home, live and radio recordings, and 29 unreleased songs.
On Instagram, Mitchell said of “Day After Day”, “I wrote it on the train, between Regina and Mariposa, Ontario. … I was on my way to see Buffy Sainte-Marie. I was pregnant, and I was traveling with my daughter’s father, and we were making a ruse. I had told my parents – they thought I was a quitter anyway – ‘I’m going east to the Mariposa Folk Festival. I’m going to become a musician.’ But I had no desire to do it. It was just a way of protecting, parent protecting, really. You know, a lie for their dignity.”

  • Iron Maiden Forced to Return to Studio Due to Pandemic

    Instagram

Bruce Dickinson and his rock bandmates are pushed back into the recording booth as their tour is canceled because of the ongoing global coronavirus crisis.
    Oct 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – Iron Maiden rocker Bruce Dickinson has returned to the studio as the group remains unable to tour due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The legendary metal group was forced to cancel plans to tour this year (20) due to the coronavirus crisis and, in a new YouTube video, Bruce reveals that he and bassist Steve Harris have been working on new material.
“We’ve all had a bit of a torrid time – everybody in the whole world, Maiden included,” he said. “We wanna be out on tour. A lot of things haven’t happened this year – that’s blindingly obvious – and it’s very, very frustrating.”
“In the meantime, what are we doing? Well, we’re doing bits of writing,” he said. “I’m talking to Steve (Harris, bass player). We’ve been working together a little bit in the studio. On what, I can’t tell you, ’cause they’d have to kill me.”

He also said that the rockers are looking after their crew’s livelihood despite being unable to perform.
“All our crew are all on board with us,” he added. “Obviously, after the cancellation of the shows and rescheduling of the shows this year, all of our lives were cancelled. The killer crew is still on board for when we resume normal service next year, whenever that is.”
“In the meantime, we’re all still here, we’re all still gagging and raring to go. We are not going away. We are solid, and there’s gonna be some great stuff happening in the near future.”
Iron Maiden released their last studio collection, “The Book of Souls”, back in 2015, and will debut a new live record, “Nights of the Dead, Legacy of the Beast: Live in Mexico City”, on 20 November (20).

  • Jon Bon Jovi Pays Tribute to Friends and Neighbors Who Died of Covid-19 on New Album

The Bon Jovi frontman pays homage to lives lost to the deadly virus on his upcoming studio album as he talks about his friends and neighbors who passed away from the coronavirus.
    Oct 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – Jon Bon Jovi has lost friends and neighbours to coronavirus.
The “Livin’ on a Prayer” hitmaker’s 18-year-old son, Jacob, and bandmates David Bryan and Everett Bradley survived the virus after testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this year (20), but other people in the rocker’s life haven’t been as lucky.
“The virus was all around us,” Bon Jovi tells the Daily Mail. “We were in the bullseye in New York and New Jersey, and I lost friends and neighbours. A dear friend of mine lost his mum. The guy that sold me this apartment beat cancer but lost his life to COVID-19.”
The pandemic also impacted Bon Jovi’s music plans – a planned summer tour was scrapped to allow ticket holders to use the refund cash to buy groceries.
“Given these difficult times, we have made the decision to cancel the tour entirely,” a statement read. “This will enable ticket holders to get refunds to help pay their bills or buy groceries. These are trying times. You’ve always been there for us and we’ll always be there for you. We look forward to seeing everyone again on tour when we can all safely be together.”

Meanwhile, the release of the group’s new album, “2020”, was delayed, allowing Bon Jovi to write and record new songs that tackled issues fans were facing during the pandemic.
In an interview with “Good Morning America” on Friday (02Oct20) – the new release date – the rocker explained one new song, “Do What You Can”, was inspired by a photo his wife Dorothea took of him washing dishes at one of his JBJ Soul Kitchen restaurants, which provides free meals for the homeless.
“Because of the crisis and the shutdown, no restaurants remained open, but we remained open,” he said. “Dorothea snapped that picture of me for the social media and she asked me for a caption… and what I said was, ‘If you can’t do what you do… do what you can!’ ”
“The next day when I woke up, I thought, ‘Well, that’s a big ol’ Bon Jovi song title,’ so I went in my little music room and I wrote the song.”
The track was one of two last-minute additions to the new album – “American Reckoning” is an acoustic song dealing with the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minnesota police officers in May (20).

    Oct 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Uptown Funk” hitmaker Mark Ronson has unveiled his alternative James Bond theme on a new album to raise funds for a voting rights organisation.
His “No Time to Die” track appears on the second “Various Artists Working to Avert the Collapse of American Democracy’s Good Music 2020” compilation, which was released as a download via Bandcamp for one day only on Friday (02Oct20).
Mark announced the release on Twitter, writing, “the bond song that never was for the bond film I hope we get to see someday. Only available today with all net proceeds going to @votingrightslab.”

A first volume of the compilation was released last month (Sep20) and raised over $250,000 (£193,000) for Voting Rights Lab.
The album’s release comes a day after Billie Eilish debuted her video for the official Bond movie theme song, also titled “No Time To Die”, and hours before MGM studio bosses announced the film would be moving from its 20 November release date to next Easter (Apr21).
Billie Eilish was the youngest artist to record a 007 soundtrack. The song became the first James Bond theme by a female artist to top the UK chart. “It feels crazy to be a part of this in every way,” she said. “To be able to score the theme song to a film that is part of such a legendary series is a huge honour.”
She collaborated with her brother Finneas. “Writing the theme song for a Bond film is something we’ve been dreaming about doing our entire lives. There is no more iconic pairing of music and cinema than the likes of Goldfinger and Live and Let Die. We feel so so lucky to play a small role in such a legendary franchise, long live 007,” he gushed.

  • LL Cool J Tells Kanye West to Urinate His Yeezy Instead of Grammy Trophy

    WENN/Instar/Ivan Nikolov

In a new interview, the former Grammys host admits he doesn’t understand the ‘constant disrespect’ towards the recording academy, saying, ‘What the f**k is he doing?’
    Oct 3, 2020
AceShowbiz – Remember the one time when Kanye West made the Internet baffled by urinating his Grammy trophy? LL Cool J let it be known during his recent appearance on “Desus & Mero” that he is not here for his fellow hip-hop star’s action, telling him to urinate his Yeezy stuff instead of the trophy.
“With all due respect, I think Kanye should just–maybe he should just piss in a Yeezy or something instead of pissing on a Grammy,” he said in the episode. “Piss in a pair of one them Yeezys, B. I felt some kind of way about that shit. I didn’t love that shit, because I’ve been with the Grammys for five years.”

Even though LL Cool J, who has hosted the annual show several times in the past, admitted that the recording academy is not entirely innocent, they also didn’t deserve the “constant disrespect” from Kanye. “Look, now don’t get me wrong, there have been some foul things that have happened to some artists around the Grammys; they are not without flaw,” he pointed. “But piss on one those f**king space shoes or something … C’mon, man. What the f**k is he doing?”
Last month, Kanye created headlines by posting a video of him urinating one of 21 Grammy trophies that he put in a toilet bowl. His action was a part of his effort to get back his own master recordings and help other artists suffering from similar situations.
“When you sign a music deal you sign away your rights. Without the masters you can’t do anything with your own music. Someone else controls where it’s played and when it’s played. Artists have nothing accept the fame, touring and merch,” he said at the time, adding, “The artist deserve to own our masters…artist are starving without tours…Ima go get our masters…for all artist…pray for me.”

The British-Pakistani actor appears on Britain’s “The Graham Norton Show” on Friday night (October 2) and discusses his love of rap.

“It is a big part of who I am,” says the 37-year-old star. “It’s my therapy and the film is an extension of that. Music is my career but it is something I need to do.”
Ahmed was on the show to promote his movie “Mogul Mowgli”, co-written by, produced by and starring the actor. It follows the story of British Pakistani rapper Zed (Ahmed) who, on the cusp of his first world tour, is struck down by an illness that threatens to derail his big break and forces him to face his past, his family, and the uncertainty of his legacy.

Its big theme is that you don’t know where you are going unless you look back and try and re-connect.” He also shares that the indie movie “is the most personal work I’ve ever made. Can’t wait to share it.”

  • Maren Morris Pays Tribute to BLM Activists in New Protest Song

The country music singer speaks out against systemic racism and police brutality in a newly-premiered music video for her latest single called ‘Better Than We Found It’.
    Oct 3, 2020
AceShowbiz – Maren Morris has rush-released a new single to sum up how she feels as a new mum living in 2020 America.
“Better Than We Found It” and its accompanying video, directed by Gabrielle Woodland, dropped on Friday (02Oct20), and Maren tells WENN she felt compelled to record and release the track as soon as she had co-written it.
The country star, who became a first-time mum in March (20) – at the beginning of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic – says, “I wanted to write something to address exactly how I feel right now, and this came together pretty quickly.”
“It’s a protest song – it’s the most American thing to protest and protest songs have been so embedded in American culture. I think the world right now is sort of in a perpetual mourning period and I wanted to have a song that had weight but also had hope. I still have hope for this country and for the future of it, and as a new mother, I wanted to promise my son that I’m going to do everything in my power to leave this world better than the one I came into and the one I see right now.”
The video features members of Maren’s Nashville community, including the family of Daniel Hambrick, who was killed by police officers in 2018 and young Black Lives Matter protesters. It ends with a letter Maren wrote to her baby son, Hayes.

Director Woodland adds, “I think Maren says it best in her letter to Hayes when she states, ‘Our education must grow along side our empathy.’ ”
“In present day America, we’re constantly told what to think about certain people, their lifestyles and situations that might be different than the average American experience. For this video, Maren wanted to break down the barriers that separate us and remind everyone that, at the end of the day, we are all the same. We are all human and we need to take a lot more time to listen and understand each other.”
“The political climate we live in right now doesn’t give a lot of room for people to converse, and it’s so easy look at our world in black and white. Maren and I both thought it was important to highlight real stories happening to actual people.”
A portion of proceeds from sales of the single will be donated to the Black Women’s Health Imperative, the first nonprofit organisation created by black women to help protect and advance the health and wellness of black women and girls.
The single comes less than three weeks after Maren was named Female Artist of the Year at the 2020 Academy of Country Music Awards.
