  • Van Morrison Accuses Scientists of Lying About Covid-19 in Anti-Lockdown Song

    WENN

The ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ singer claims scientists make up ‘crooked facts’ about coronavirus and calls the government ‘overreaching’ for issuing lockdown order.
    Sep 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – Van Morrison has accused scientists of “making up crooked facts” in three new songs that protest against the coronavirus lockdown.
The 75-year-old singer will release the tunes at two-week intervals, with “Born to Be Free” the first to drop on 25 September (20).
Other controversial lyrics include Morrison arguing that the government are “taking our freedom” as he sings, “The new normal, is not normal. We were born to be free.”
“No more lockdown / No more government overreach,” he sings in the chorus. “No more fascist bullies / Disturbing our peace / No more taking of our freedom / And our God given rights / Pretending it’s for our safety / When it’s really to enslave.”

Explaining the reasons for the songs, Morrison said in a statement, “I’m not telling people what to do or think, the government is doing a great job of that already.”
“It’s about freedom of choice, I believe people should have the right to think for themselves.”
It’s not the first time Morrison has caused controversy with his theories about the Covid-19 pandemic. The “Brown Eyed Girl” star previously hit headlines when he slammed the “pseudoscience” surrounding the virus as he urged his fans to join him in a campaign to “save live music.”
He has since received backlash for his protest against the COVID-19 lockdowns in U.K. City councilor Emmet McDonough-Brown said that his lyrics were “undermining the guidance in place to protect lives and are ignorant of established science as we grapple with Covid-19.”

  • Alicia Keys Gave Billie Eilish a Call After Seeing Her Discomfort Following Grammy Wins

    Instagram

The ‘No One’ singer can relate to Billie’s uneaseness at Grammy wins as she felt the same way after her 2002 triumphs so she made sure to let the younger star know she deserved the awards.
    Sep 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – Alicia Keys called Billie Eilish the day after the Grammy Awards to reassure her that she deserved all of her success.
The “Fallin’ ” singer was on hand to present Billie with the Best New Artist gong at the ceremony earlier this year (20), and the “Bad Guy” star’s clear discomfort at taking home five prizes at the music awards reminded Alicia of how she felt when she did the same back in 2002.
“There you are, with all these accolades and all this celebration – and you don’t know exactly what to do with it, or even why was it you,” Alicia told the BBC. “It feels almost like it’s overkill. You think, ‘Spread it around, don’t just give (the awards) to me,’ you know? I definitely recognise that, I understood that.”

So upon sensing Billie’s feelings surrounding her victories, Alicia gave her a ring the next day.
“I wanted to congratulate her because I was so happy for her, because not only does she have a beautiful voice but she’s not trying to fit in to the crowd – and that’s such an important thing to see,” she explained. “So when I called her I said, ‘Don’t for one second think that you didn’t deserve this. You deserve all of this, and don’t forget it.’ ”
“Because I remember I definitely felt like that for a long time. I thought I didn’t deserve what I was receiving, I didn’t deserve the greatness that I had inside of me.”

  • Liam Gallagher Inspired This Band to Reunite and Make New Album

    Instagram

Dan Wilson credits the Oasis musician for his reunion with Semisonic bandmates as they are gearing up for the release of their new music after nearly two decades.
    Sep 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – Liam Gallagher inspired Semisonic frontman Dan Wilson to reunite his band – by turning down his songwriting efforts.
The “Secret Smile” hitmakers split in 2001, reuniting in 2017 for some small shows to mark the 20th anniversary of their first album, “Great Divide” – and have now formally got back together to release their first new music in 19 years on their new EP, “You’re Not Alone”.
After leaving Semisonic, Wilson carved out a career as a songwriter for other artists, and reveals that a meeting with Gallagher about writing for him inspired the reunion – even though none of his efforts made it on to the ex-Oasis rocker’s record.
“I had this great meeting with Liam,” he tells Music Week magazine. “I’ve always been a huge admirer of his, and his band. We had this really interesting meeting, we talked about music, we talked about the possibility of me writing some songs and to see what it would be like for him to sing a song that I wrote.”

“I was pretty inspired by the talk. And so I gave it a shot. Two weeks later I sent a bunch of songs to him and his manager and they wrote back and said, ‘Oh, whoops, the album’s actually done, sorry, but next time!’ and that was, cool. That was fine.”
Although the tracks did not make the cut, they rekindled Wilson’s desire to play in a band – inspiring him to reunite his old group.
“One of the songs in particular, which Semisonic didn’t end up using, but I kept thinking, ‘This doesn’t sound like Liam Gallagher at all, this sounds like Semisonic,’ ” he explains. “I think it was like a kickstart or kind of a cheat sheet. It probably put me back in a mindset I was in in 1998, like, ‘Oh, that’s the flavor – that’s what the band was like. That’s what it felt like to play rock with a band!’ ”
“You’re Not Alone” is out Friday (18Sep20).

    WENN

The ‘Unfollow the Rules’ star is staging a weekly album performance on social media as he is unable to go on a tour because of the ongoing global health crisis.
    Sep 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – Rufus Wainwright is planning to close out the year by performing all of his albums side-by-side as part of a new virtual concert initiative.
“The Rufus-Retro-Wainwright-Spective” will launch on 9 October (20) with the singer/songwriter performing side one of his self-titled debut album in its entirety. A week later, he’ll play side two and a week after that he’ll move on to the first side of his “Poses” release.

“I cannot tour my new album, Unfollow the Rules, which is why I have had ample time to reflect. I consider Unfollow the Rules a bookend to my first album – both were recorded and produced in Los Angeles, in a lot of the same studios and with a lot of the same session musicians. I consider Unfollow the Rules my first album of maturity as a songwriter, following in the footsteps of the greats a lot of them have left us already or will very soon.”
“So, it’s time to look back to look forward. I’m excited for fans to join me on my trip into the past and on this virtual world tour of my entire studio album catalogue.”
Wainwright will play a side from his first four albums every week for the eight weeks leading to the end of November (20), and then announce a new schedule for December.
He recently debuted his new album by staging a virtual listening party for fans, during which he performed the tracks from “Unfollow the Rules”.

  • Eurovision Song Contest Guaranteed for 2021 Return Regardless of COVID-19 Situation

The 2020 event, which was originally set to take place in The Netherlands, was called off in May as the coronavirus spread around the world, but each contestant got invited back to perform a new song.
    Sep 19, 2020
AceShowbiz – Eurovision Song Contest chiefs have confirmed the event will “definitely” return next year – even if Europe is still on lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year’s event from Rotterdam in The Netherlands was called off in May as the coronavirus spread around the world, with each contestant invited back in 2021 to perform a new song.
On Friday, September 18, organizers announced that the European music extravaganza will “definitely return” on May 22, 2021, outlining four different scenarios in a statement posted on the Eurovision website.

If the pandemic subsides and a vaccine is made available, the contest will be hosted as usual from Rotterdam’s Ahoy Arena, with a full audience and media contingent in attendance.
The second scenario would again feature a full contest, but with a limited socially distant audience and limits on the size of delegations and press teams.
In case travel restrictions are implemented, a third plan would result in artists performing from their own country if unable to travel to The Netherlands, as well as, again, a socially distanced audience and limits on press and delegations.
Should The Netherlands be in lockdown, the contest will be hosted from the Ahoy Arena without an audience, but with each act performing via video link from their homeland.
A definitive decision on the contest format will be made early in 2021.
It arrives after the 2020 Eurovision contest, which was supposed to be held in Rotterdam, Netherland, was canceled due to the coronavirus. Confirming the sad news back in May, the organizers said in a statement, “We would ask people to bear with us while we work through the ramifications of this unprecedented decision and patiently await any further news in the coming days and weeks. all the host broadcaster team in the Netherlands and our 41 Members who have worked so hard planning this year’s event.”
“We are all as heartbroken as they are that the Eurovision Song Contest will not be able to be staged in may and know that the whole Eurovision family, across the world, will continue to provide love and support for each other at this difficult time,” the statement concluded.

AceShowbiz – Pop star Mika is urging music fans to tune in and dig deep when he hosts a livestream benefit for the survivors of last month’s Beirut explosion over the weekend, insisting locals are desperately in need of help.
The singer has organized the “I Heart Beirut” fundraiser, which will also feature performances from Kylie Minogue, Laura Pausini, and Rufus Wainwright and an appearance by actress Salma Hayek.
All proceeds and donations will benefit charities and organizations helping those impacted by the blast in the Lebanese capital get back on their feet. The explosion flattened a large part of the city and cost nearly 200 people their lives.

Mika, who was born in Beirut, says, “Lebanon has always been present in my life and the images I saw provoked such a strong reaction in me.” Feeling he had to do something to help, he quickly organized the “I Heart Beirut” event. “There are some people in tremendous need of support,” he adds.

“What we are trying to do, being musicians and artists and actors and actresses, is just for an hour and 45 minutes we can turn off the political conversation and reply using music and do our jobs, which is to provoke emotion and empathy,” he tells the Associated Press.
Meanwhile, Kylie says in her statement, “Mika and I have been friends for a while, so when he asked me to be part of his ‘I Love Beirut’ project of course I said yes! The situation in Lebanon is so sad, but I hope this event will raise lots of money to support the incredible work of Save the Children and the Lebanese Red Cross and their teams working on the ground in Beirut. Sep 19, 2020
AceShowbiz – Summer Walker has recently released a new song, collaborating with Lil Tjay and Pop Smoke for the remix of “Mood Swings”. However, the R&B songstress apparently does not like the final result of the song even though she perfectly showcases her talent on the tune, which hit the stores on Friday, September 18.
On the song, Summer lends her voice in the first verse as she sings, “I don’t mean to tip, keep a tight grip on it/ That’s my d**k when I want it/ But, boy, you give me head/ Make me wanna treat you like a broke n***as/ Always end up with the wrong n****s.” She also croons over the smooth beat in the chorus with Smoke’s adlibs in the background.

Not everyone likes the song, with one directly commenting underneath Summer’s Instagram post about the song, “Am I the only one who don’t like it.” It turns out the said person wasn’t the only one because the “I’ll Kill You” singer replied, “Nope, I’m not feeling it either, on top of me not writing it, but I was asked twice to do a ft with him so I did.” She added, “Ima just take this L (on my end) but peace & love to him.”

The original version of “Mood Swings” is featured on Smoke’s first posthumous album “Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Mood”, which launched atop the Billboard 200 chart and kept a spot in the top 5 for 10 weeks straight. In addition to that, it got certified Platinum last month.
“Mood Swings” also received a visual treatment that was released in the same month it was certified Platinum. It featured Dylan and Dakota Gonzalez, as well as Jordyn Woods traveling across several colorful venues and locations.
