  • Tim McGraw Calls for Gender Equality in Music as He Introduces First ACM Performance by Black Woman

    CBS

The ‘I Called Mama’ singer demands ‘equal opportunity’ for women in music while introducing a first performance by black woman at the Academy of Country Music Awards
    Sep 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tim McGraw called for “equal opportunity” for women as he paid tribute to his wife Faith Hill and their daughters at the 55th annual ACM Awards on Wednesday (16Sep20) night.
After an emotional performance of his hit “I Called Mama”, which he performed at Nashville’s famous Bluebird Cafe, the country music superstar who has won 18 ACM awards, was tasked with introducing the next performance. But before doing so, he paused to honour the women in his life, and advocated for equality for all women.

“As a son, a husband, a proud father of three daughters, and as a human being, I am enlightened and inspired by women every single day. Their strength changes me for the better. Every opportunity in life should be available to women,” he said, according to Access Hollywood. “This next song speaks to the questions we face while trying to create the changes that allow our daughters to be whomever they want to be.”
He then added, “Their strength changes me for the better.”
The “Humble and Kind” hitmaker’s comments come as a number of female country music artists including Shania Twain, Carrie Underwood, and Miranda Lambert have spoken out about the gender disparity and sexism in the industry, with female artists receiving just 10 per cent of airtime on country music radio.
McGraw then introduced a powerful performance from Mickey Guyton who sang, “What Are You Gonna Tell Her”, accompanied by Keith Urban on the piano, making her the first Black woman to perform at the show.
The 37-year-old told People before taking to the stage, “To get this opportunity to represent for Black women at the ACM Awards and to sing a song about the oppression of women and trying to change that – it really does mean a lot to me to be able to do that at the ACMs.”

    Sep 18, 2020

The 37-year-old singer, real name Candace Mycale Guyton, performed a stunning rendition of her song “What Are You Gonna Tell Her” during the ceremony – becoming the first Black woman to perform at the show.
And the importance of the moment wasn’t lost on the pregnant star, who told Entertainment Tonight, “I’m so thankful to the ACMs and to CBS for giving me this opportunity and for believing in me. I was supposed to sing back in April, and they still had me here, and I’m just so honoured.”
“That phrase, ‘You see it, you can be it’ really rings true, and I just – standing here for other women of colour, it means to the world to me. That’s why I’m here.”

Mickey was accompanied by Keith Urban on the piano for the incredible performance and added to People before taking to the stage, “Let me tell you, it has been a long time coming for me. Sep 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – MoneyBagg Yo has blessed his fans with new music. The hip-hop star released the remix of his song “Said Sum” on Thursday midnight, September 17, tapping City Girls and DaBaby to join him on the track. However, it looks like fans are less than pleased with MoneyBagg’s choice for the featuring artists.
On the nearly-three minute song, JT is in charge of the first verse before passing the baton to Baby, MoneyBagg and her partner Yung Miami. Name-dropping Ray J, JT spits her bars, “I leave a b***h mad with the stuck face (Ha)/ Who the f**k are h**s playin’ wit’ anyways? (What?)/ City Girls make ’em wish like Ray J (Let me talk to ’em)/ All these n****s wanna f**k JT (They do).”

  • ACM Awards 2020: Taylor Swift Returns to Nashville to Live Debut 'Betty'

    CBS

Also among the performers at the award-giving event is Blake Shelton who joins forces with girlfriend Gwen Stefani to bring happiness with their latest duet song ‘Happy Anywhere’.
    Sep 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – The 2020 Academy of Country Music Awards was held on Wednesday, September 16, offering some stunning performances from famous faces in the country music scene. Among the performers was Blake Shelton who joined forces with girlfriend Gwen Stefani to bring happiness with their latest duet song “Happy Anywhere”.
“Hey guys, Blake here, and I hope everyone out there is doing their best to stay healthy,” Shelton said to the camera ahead of the performance as they filmed in front of a green-screened, virtual Bluebird Cafe from Los Angeles. “Gwen and I wish that we could be in Nashville tonight, but we couldn’t. But through the magic of television, voila! Welcome back to the Bluebird Cafe, everybody.”

Also performing that night was Taylor Swift. The “Cardigan” hitmaker made her return to the award-giving event for the first time in seven years. The pop star offered a live debut of “Betty” of her chart-topping album “Folklore”.
For her grand return to Nashville, Taylor opted to wear khaki pants and a sequined turtleneck top. She performed with just her guitar and a harmonica player against a black background. The country-turned-pop singer sang on the song, “Of I just showed up at your party…would you tell me to go straight to hell?” Taylor apparently changed the lyrics for ACM Awards 2020 as the original lyrics were, “Would you tell me to go f**k myself?”

Meanwhile, Morgan Wallen hit the 2020 ACM Awards stage to sing his 2018 single “Whiskey Glasses”. Although COVID-19 pandemic forced the 55th Academy of Country Music awards to have no public spectators in attendance, it didn’t stop the musician to give his all out as if he was there performing in front of live audience.

The night also saw Trisha Yearwood honoring late country stars by performing a beautiful rendition of “I’ll Carry You Home” during its In Memoriam segment. Backed up by three singers and accompanied with a piano, Trisha belted out the 2019 track in a beautiful champagne-colored, long-sleeve gown.
The song, which was featured on Trisha’s album “Every Girl”, was a perfect choice to remember country musicians who passed away this year. Among the fallen stars were John Prine, Joe Diffie, Kenny Rogers, Jan Howard, Justin Townes Earle, busbee and Charlie Daniels.

The award-giving event also saw performances from the likes Tim McGraw, Maren Morris, Luke Bryan ,Kelsea Ballerini and Cade Foehner, the latter of whom was joined on stage by wife Gabby Barrett.

  • Kanye West Peeing on His Grammy After Ranting About Record Label

    WENN

The ‘College Dropout’ star has shared a video that appears to show him urinate on one of his Golden Gramophones after saying he’s done with ‘Sony and Universal.’
    Sep 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – Kanye West has made it clear he’s deadly serious about freezing his business relationships with bosses at Sony and Universal by appearing to pee on one of his 21 Grammy Awards.
The “Stronger’ rapper is desperately trying to buy back his masters from company executives so he can officially own his recordings, and he has pledged not to release any new music until he’s released from his record label contract.
After posting dozens of pages of one of his contracts to show how binding they are on Tuesday (15Sep20), the rap star uploaded a video of himself seemingly urinating on one of his Grammy statues.

It’s the latest in a run of bizarre actions, which began in early July (20), when Kanye announced he would be running for election as U.S. President in November.
He also revealed at a political rally that he and his wife Kim Kardashian had considered aborting their firstborn daughter North, and then attacked Kim and her mother Kris in a Twitter rant.
Kardashian has since explained her husband’s comments came during a bipolar episode.
Earlier this week (14Sep20), West returned to Twitter and stated, “I’m not putting no more music out till I’m done with my contract with Sony and Universal… On God… in Jesus name… come and get me. I’m not industry bro… I don’t care… I’m in service to Christ… we need world healing… I miss my brothers… I refuse to argue with black men on labels we don’t own… even twitter.”
“I have the utmost respect for all brothers… we need to link and respect each other… no more dissing each other on labels we don’t own. Let’s stop killing each other… let’s show God that we are Gods people… my ego gets the best of me too… God doesn’t measure us by money in his kingdom… let’s love each other (sic).”
Kanye then tweeted, “I’m the 2nd richest black man in America… I need all my people with me for us to get free,” but decided to delete that post as he added, “I deleted that tweet about riches… the wealth is in our love of family and our brothers and our service to God… let’s rise up… let’s communicate.”

  • Lady Antebellum Sued by Original Lady A Amid Row Over Name Change

    WENN/Instagram

Charles Kelley, Dave Haywood, and Hillary Scott have been slapped with a lawsuit by blues singer Anita White for trademark infringement amid debacle over their new moniker.
    Sep 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – Blues singer Anita White is suing country band Lady Antebellum for trademark infringement after they changed their name.
The “Need You Now” hitmakers decided to shorten the group name to Lady A earlier this summer (20), after acknowledging the ‘Antebellum’ of their former moniker was too closely linked to Southern U.S. culture, when slavery was legal.
However, Washington-based musician White was left unimpressed with the switch as she has been performing as Lady A for decades, and the dispute then turned nasty, with bandmates Charles Kelley, Dave Haywood, and Hillary Scott taking the 62 year old to court for her “attempt to enforce purported trademarks rights.”
White has now hit back with a lawsuit of her own, with the legal papers stating, “Lady Antebellum’s decision to replace the name Lady Antebellum with Lady A was undertaken with wilful disregard of Ms. White’s rights in her Lady A trademark, which she has used for nearly thirty years.”
Adding that the trio has caused “tortious injury” to White with their name change, the documents continued to explain that while she and Lady A held a video conference to try and reach an agreement about the name, they were “unable to reach a resolution.”
Representatives for Lady A have yet to respond to the latest lawsuit.

  • Swizz Beatz Sends Love to Janet Jackson Following Shady Comments Regarding 'Verzuz'

    WENN/Ivan Nikolov/Jason Mendez

Swizz previously caught heat after he appeared to dismiss Janet when discussing the idea of having the ‘When I Think of You’ singer going against Missy Elliott in a song battle.
    Sep 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – Swizz Beatz has responded to the backlash he receives over his comments on Janet Jackson when discussing the idea of having Janet going against Missy Elliott on “Verzuz”. While Timbaland loved the idea, Swizz didn’t think Janet had the “vault” for it, much to fans’ dismay. Now, he appears to clarify his statements.
Commenting underneath The Shade Room’s post about the matter, the husband of Alicia Keys explained, “LETS BE CLEAR. I don’t think Missy & Janet is a good match up at all! Much love to Janet she’s ICON but I just didn’t feel that was a good match up.” He went on saying, “Janet got hits on hits but she should have a better person to celebrate with that’s all. Blessings….”
Swizz later doubled down on his remarks in an Instagram comment in a separate post. “Better person meaning someone who match the vibe better to all who still don’t understand,” he wrote.

Upon reading Swizz’s explanation, some fan defended him. “I totally got exactly what you meant. That wasn’t gonna be a good match up. Two totally different vibes. Let’s think back to Missy era and who was out at that time that she was competing with. That’s where you’ll find your match up at. I think @janetjackson and @beyonce who be a good match up. Old school hit R&B with semi old school,” one fan reacted.
Someone else suggested that it would be great if Janet and Lil’ Kim have a face-off, writing, “Janet and little Kim would be good they should be on that wap song it would be.” However, a user didn’t change his/her mind and continued to slam Swizz. “You’re always saying and doing stupid s**t just like your marriages,” said the person.
Swizz enraged Janet’s fans after he said, “Because Missy can be multiple people. Janet gonna just be Janet,” during an Instagram Live session with Timbaland. After his name was trending on Twitter, Missy herself weighed in on the matter. She wrote on the blue bird app on Monday, September 14, “Lol I was home watching Janet when she was already a SUPA Star so that tells you how BIG her vault of hits is.”
