  • Doja Cat Thought MTV VMAs Win Was 'Sick Prank'

    Instagram

The ‘Say So’ hitmaker initially thought she was being pranked when she was announced as a winner for 2020 Best New Artist at the MTV Video Music Awards recently.
    Sep 2, 2020
AceShowbiz – Doja Cat feared she was being fooled when she was announced as the winner of the Push Best New Artist trophy at Sunday’s (30Aug20) MTV Video Music Awards.
The “Say So” hitmaker beat out competition from the likes of Lewis Capaldi, Roddy Ricch, and Yungblud for the trophy – but she tells MTV she thought she’d fallen victim to a “sick prank” when her name was called.
“I was really, really excited to find that out and I didn’t know how to try to hold myself back from tears,” she says. “I usually say that I don’t care about this kind of thing, but I actually do. I now know that I do care about getting this award, a lot.”
“It means that there are people out there who enjoy my music and they care about me, like they care about the craft. They care about what I’m doing. That’s amazing for me because I just enjoy doing it, period. If people didn’t like it, I’d probably still be doing it, but it’s really cool that people support it.”
The win comes as Doja prepares to drop her forthcoming third album and, while she insists she “can’t say when” the record is due, she teased each new song has its own “personality.”
“I really want to make it a surprise. I don’t want to say too much,” she smiles. “It’s not gonna be perfectly consistent – I’ve never been, anyway. But we have some dancehall stuff on there, some Afrobeat stuff, some funk, house. I’m trying to cover all bases.”

  • Kelsea Ballerini Disappointed by CMA Awards Snub

    WENN

The ‘Like Me Like You Mean It’ singer admits she feels disappointed as she’s being overlooked by Country Music Association for this year’s CMA Awards nominations.
    Sep 2, 2020
AceShowbiz – Country star Kelsea Ballerini is confident her “current disappointment” at her lack of Country Music Association Awards nominations will inspire her to create “something beautiful.”
The shortlist for the 2020 ceremony was unveiled on Tuesday (01Sep20), and for the first time in her career, the singer was completely shut out – including in the Female Vocalist of the Year category, in which she had been nominated for the past five years.
Ballerini admits the news left her a little sad, but she is determined to bounce back stronger than ever – just like she did when she was snubbed at the 2019 Academy of Country Music Awards.
Referencing that occasion, she tweeted, “last time this happened, I wrote (the single) homecoming queen the next day about the feeling. something beautiful will undoubtedly come from the current disappointment.”
“Nonetheless, congratulations to my friends & peers that got nominations (sic). proud to be a part of the country family, always.”
Ballerini was flooded with messages of encouragement from fans and friends alike, including fellow country star Kane Brown, who also failed to land any CMA nominations.
“Hold your head up,” he commented before appearing to react to his own awards snub by remaining optimistic.
“Good morning!” Brown wrote. “Today’s gonna be a great freaking day! Enjoy.”
Miranda Lambert, Luke Combs, and Maren Morris lead the nominations for the 2020 CMA Awards, set to take place in November (20).

The pop star was left heartbroken after the death of Loretta ‘Mammie’ Finley last month (Aug20), and Miley has been listening to Don Henley and his bandmates on repeat ever since.

“That was my Mammie’s favourite record, she loved the Eagles,” Miley, who performed the band’s “Take It to the Limit” during an appearance on BBC Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo’s show on Tuesday, explained.
    [embedded content]
“That is a song that my mom and her mom sang in the car every day on the way to school. The Eagles have been a big inspiration for me and it’s about giving that respect to the people that have passed down music that made us who we are.”

Miley also performed “Midnight Sky” from her upcoming studio album, “She Is Miley Cyrus”, her 2019 single “Slide Away”, and a cover version of Billie Eilish’s “My Future” on the show.

  • Big Sean Accused of Lying After He Claims 'IDFWU' Isn't a Naya Rivera Diss

    WENN

During an interview to promote his upcoming album, the hip-hop star denies dissing the late ‘Glee’ alum on the song as he claims that she knew about the song and liked it.
    Sep 2, 2020
AceShowbiz – People on the Internet are currently mad at Big Sean. The rapper recently did an interview to promote his upcoming album “Detroit 2”, and at one point during the chat, he set the record straight on his infamous song “IDFWU” that many people believed was a diss towards Naya Rivera. Thus, when he denied he was dissing his ex, people were fuming.
During the interview, Sean was asked whether he felt any “regret” in regards to the 2015 single. In response, he said, “That’s a tough question to answer because I’m still processing a lot of that. I don’t feel comfortable talking about it because I want to respect her. She’s made such an impact on people, and she’s done so many great things in her life and her career that it was hurtful to even have that [song] be associated with her.”
Denying the record was a diss towards Naya, Sean continued, “I truly made the song and played it for her. She knew about it, and she liked it. We had a breakup that was very public, and we were young and we forgave each other and moved on from that. If I would have known something this tragic would have happened, I would have never made the song.”
Soon after the interview was made public, people were accusing him of lying as they pointed out that Naya once revealed in her book that she begged him not to release the song. “bro, big sean bring this back today in a interview. He said lies and s**t about naya, the only wrong persons is him,” one person said. “So sick because he didn’t even have to say s**t. You just went out of your way to LIE. On someone thats dead and can’t defend or call you out for it. All sorts of disgusting. F**k big Sean for real,” another blasted him.
“big sean is so obsessed with naya, he needs to lie and talk about her to get clout for his new album lol, stan naya rivera,” someone else commented, while one other wrote, “big sean why lie for the tabloids omg don’t you have a f**king girlfriend as we speak??!?!?! take her out to dinner go start a family take a yoga class with but don’t lie in naya’s face..”

Elsewhere in the nominations, Maren Morris received several nods for her crossover smash “The Bones”, including Single of the Year, Song of the Year, and Musical Event of the Year, one of two she received in that category, as well as a Female Vocalist of the Year nod for five in total.
Carly Pearce earned four nominations as did Dan + Shay and producer Jay Joyce. Ashley McBryde and Keith Urban are up for three awards – and they’re joined by a surprise CMA face, Justin Bieber, by virtue of his featured appearance on Dan + Shay’s thrice-nominated single, “10,000 Hours”.

AceShowbiz – Singer and actor Leslie Odom Jr. has finally landed longtime pal Sia Furler for an upcoming studio collaboration.
The two friends have teamed up to rework one of the former “Hamilton” star’s songs for his new album “Mr.” and Leslie can’t wait for fans to hear it.
